    tubecatgs Finally a 4 speed......

Going to be adding an amp to the after market stereo in my 72 Skylark. I have an 8 guage wire in case i want to run a 4 channel 1000 watt amp 4 speaker system at some point... where is the best place to hook into 12 volt? Directly to the battery? Can you hook it to the starter or is there a spot on the fuse box under the dash big enough? I hate the look of a wire under the hood....

    Thanks

The battery is the best place. Use an inline fuse. Amps take a lot of current to run. You could hook it to the starter, but that would be very difficult I think. There isn't a lot of room there unless you have a mini starter with a clock able solenoid.

That's what I thought. The wiring kit I have came with a 60 amp fuse...thanks!

I hooked mine directly to the battery with the fuse and used the orange wire for the radio for the blue wire to turn on the amp when the stereo is turned on.

Thanks. How did you run/route the wire in the engine bay?

On the passenger side inner fender from the battery then below the heater box inside then routed on the side of the transmission jump, under the rear seat to the trunk. I taped the wire down before installing the carpet
