1 I have the edelbrock performer intake. It is a split divide at top. Which is the correct gasket. 2i have a 1973 qjet. W divorced choke. Rod n spring. Is there an electric choke upgrade? 3 has anyone had to add a washer to the primary throttle plate screw so the spring does not bounce around loose. I had the qjet built then repaired. It’s working better and will get back to it tomorrow. 14* timing 33 total w mad distributor. It runs rough at idle but about 11” vacuum. Needs moves around a bit. I might add some questions tomorrow when working on it. Thank you.
Here's the electric choke conversion, http://v8buick.com/index.php?thread...n-kits-for-1968-1974-buick-quadrajets.302450/
Split divide at top? You mean the divider is ground down on the secondary side? Maybe this gasket, https://quadrajetparts.com/quadrajet-dualjet-base-gasket-thick-oldsmobile-1972-p-101.html
MAD distributor, you mean MSD? The engine might like a bit more initial. Are you using the largest (black) advance stop bushing?
Blocked heat crossover. Electric choke on holley worked fine. Trying to get qjet working I had built.
OK, stock Edelbrock Performer, unmodified. https://cliffshighperformance.com/Q...rajet-parts/quadrajet-flange-gasket-250-thick I thought yours was like this,
Thank you Larry. I am going to contact him as I’m going to rebuild another qjet from my small collection. Great site he has. I read his book once. Getting a copy tomorrow to reread. There is info overload but I see many success stories. So I will give it another shot. The one I have has a whistle at idle down the primary Venturi. I checked w a I think they call it. Stethoscope. Noisy as can be there going at idle.
Had Buick out today. Cruise and response is excellent. Starting cold sucks. And when it gets fully heated it gets lean. So 1 divorce choke hooked up. Works but very hard to get idle up to 1500 on ice cold. Need to help holdingctheottle or stuck in 1000 stinking up. 2 gets real lean when idling to long. Turned mixture screws out 1/4 each seemed to help. 2.5 each now. 3 whistle slight at idle. The throttle plate is barely cracked open at idle and timing at 14*. Carb was modified and over drilled I think. Not sure what will have to call and see. Still need to look int others I have saved. Drivability around is good but almost seems like it leans out at idle fully hot. Almost a shake when stopping. Tomorrow new day.need to hit the books.
Yes I have an A/F sensor. Carb built by Quadra jet power. My second failure from him. First had a completely corroded main body on bottom. Leaked fuel inside. Was in bad shape. Sent him 2 to build one. Received it and would not run. Mixture screws in op. Sent to Ken. Now runs but still issues. Dialing it in. Ken made an adjustment in idle circuit so yes it runs. I wanted him to run carb. Did not I believe. I will try to straighten out before calling him on advice. He is easy to reach. Qudrapower did not take calls last year which is why I sent to Ken. Ken fixed mixture to get runnable. But still missing something. Enough talk. I need to get back to work on it.
No good. Pulled carb as I’m lost. Goes rich or lean and idle up sometimes. The fuel bowls are leaking into intake. Thru the pipe plugs. Also has fuel in port in front. I’m really disappointed.Drill and tap the plugs. I never question price If I’m comfortable as you need to make money. But darn. 2nd mess. I think the 2 ports in front were drilled my Ken. Idle bypass. Might be to big. I don’t know original size or what it should be. I got work ahead of me. And a sweet 70 350 replacement that ran 12.40. I will try to keep up this thread. Car has great response and will be track tested later in year. Timing is 16* initial at 35* total. which I’m surprised at as its biggest bushing. Thought it would be 22/35. Holley 780 going back to move car. lol.
