None . Single stage has the matt binder in the colors. No need for matt clear. The durability is already there. Actually there matt clear binder in the mix.

Single stage is a short cut so to speak. it is base coat with all the top coat binders in it already. If that helps explaining. Single Stage was developed by the europeans to
Quickly paint “fleet” vehicles. Delivery trucks, Taxi cabs. work trucks. And hard plastic bumpers From the 80’s. in europe. Before everything crossed over to urethane. The flexible ones of today.

But Jason when i painted my 12 bolt . Painted it grey to try to make it look like metal on the last coat i mixed Matt clear with the color 50/50. It’s all expensive processes. But i paint cars so i have access to it. Harder for people not in that circle. But if you hang out at a Parts store or Body shop supply store. You can get them to mix pints for you.

The matt clear on top of that Parts place stuff may work out very well. Just make sure the clear is full solids. Not half solids. The cheaper clear. Omni clear (PPG) half solids
not very good. But may be good for trunks. I would not use it.

I was hoping to find something in a spray can that won't react with the AC Delco spatter paint

Well paint is unpredictable. When Dupont created their waterborne basecoat. They never changed their clearcoats. The clear they have us put on their water is the same clear we put on the old base coat witch was Solent. Oil by product. So throw the dice. or Do a old fender you have laying around . Then put out in hot sun for a week or two. See what happens. Some times it’s cheaper to spend money first. Then have no regrets looking back. Jason look back on my old posts. Follow directions. easy. Better than stripping it. Doing over. That would be a night mare. lol

The key to spraying water paint. Is spraying it on a dry day. Use google on your phone to check humidity. If it’s more than 70%. Bet your ass it will take a day or two to dry correctly. Use a small house fan aim it down in the trunk. If you use that water trunk paint. Pull the water out.

I used this by holding back as far as I could 12-24”. Two full cans. Let it dry. It’s rough and a little to dull. But now I hit with duplicolor matte clear. Two cans. This flattens the roughness or more fills it in. And gives it a bit more shine. I think it looks great. Done this in three trunks now. Seem durable to me.

I have seen different color marks there on the rubber. Yellow and white as well. I just think it’s some kind of manufacturing mark and not for installation. I could be wrong but they are rarely centered on original cars.

My opinion is that is was in fact used for installation. It gives the installer a reference point. The ends have to wind up right of the latch receiver as they were never centered. So the installer finds the marks and puts them somewhere to the left of center. Now he knows the end will wind up where they should. Just my theory. My aquamist car had them when I bought it and they were to the left of center

I put runs in the paint on my fenders (marking lights) And on the Quarters (Marking lights) Just to be the “Cool factor”. I did it on purpose. Because the did not give a Ratts ass. That was the norm.
