Tried googling, found a few diff gaps. Going to change car/rotor/wires/plugs I have champion plugs. My points were changed to electronic but using the orig dizzy. It is not the HUGE HEI cap. Looks like the old factory type. What gap should I run on the plugs. The timing is set at about 9 degree if that means anything.
I wouldn't go past .040" for plug gap with any electronic points replacement ignition. No, that means next to nothing.
Well I did not get to anything other then the starter. Ha ha. That works well now. I think I may pull the non working ac compressor off the car. Would make life a little easier to get those plugs there I think. I just glanced the plugs today. Looks like a few would be tight quarters to get out. Need to pull the valve covers also as they seep a little, id think no ac unit would make the pass side easier to do.
I'm using AC R45TSX plugs gapped @.060. They are extended tip plugs compared to the R44 or R45TS. That .060 is the recommended gap for this plug. I run an MSD dist, GM ign box & good GM 8mm wires. If I bent the strap to run a smaller gap, the strap wouldnt be parallel to the center electrode. Been running them for years as I still have about 9 sets in stock. Not saying to go out and buy them, just what I've been running for the last 20 years, and will till they're gone.... I like to think with the extended tip, they give me ever so slightly more compression.
I have HEI (GM coil in cap type) and .060 TSX plugs don't run as well over all for my setup as .045 does. Every engine is different.
I am all stock other then distrib being converted to electronic (not HEI). So I will stick with a gap of .35
