Hi everyone! I bought a 71 Gs455 last week from a guy in PA. He had the car for 5 years that sat at his buddy’s body shop. According to him, he only drove the car for about 50 miles. The guy who had the car before him, had it from 1995 until his death in 2014. The guy I bought is from said it is a numbers matching car, however the block is stamped without a 4, so it’s 1H101518. Vin is 434371H101518 Are there any guys (or gals) on here that can help me sort all this out. Here is a picture of block stamp.
Here's pictures of a numbers matching 71 GS 455 convertible Vin code by the power steering pump an Engine code by the rear spark plugs on the driver side . The stampings in your picture look a little fishy what's your transmission vin look like ?
Are you doing a major concourse reconditioning to this car??????? If not I have a hard time seeing personal what it matters, drive and enjoy her
The transmission tag is on the passenger side should be BS. The Vin number is stamped on the driver side right above the pan on a flat spot near the linkage .
I hope this information can help you out either way enjoy your car while you still can these cars will be outlawed. 2035.
Some transmission have the vin number stamped on the pan rail.......the thin vertical area right above the pan.........i can't remember which side.......so a brush might be needed
Sorry hate to say it that's a turbo 400 out of 73 A body or small B body like a riviera not sure of the code on the tag that will tell you exactly what it's out of.
Is that the burnished brown 71GS 455 that was for sale in Huntington Valley Pennsylvania it was on eBay ?
I thought it was a decent car it had been for sale for years but I believe they claimed it was numbers matching and advertise it as such I would contact eBay if you purchase it through them.
Just so everyone is on the same page. The transmission tag tells you the trans code and date. The VIN stamp will be on the drivers side of the transmission, as noted in the picture below:
It had been sale for years? I didn’t know that. I bought it because it is (supposedly) a numbers matching car. I did not make the transaction through eBay. The buyer and I talked on the phone, he pulled the ad, and I sent him a deposit.
I'm not an expert on the 71 year VIN locations, but the first 1 in the 1H101518 on the side of that motor looks upside down to me. Opposite of the other 1's....
