Anyone have a good trick or what tool ( if any ), to staple my upper a-arm dust shields to the inner fenders? Thanks, Mike
The stainless steel staples are available and use the original holes in the inner fender. Having someone to help hold a heavy backer under the hood makes it much easier. There was a thread not too long ago on this.
After fighting with it for an hour I gave up and used pop rivets. drilled 1/8 holes where the staples went through.
clever idea. I did pop rivets and a couple got pulled out. I ended up starting over by making new dust covers from rubber sheeting and glued them onto the fenders with weatherstrip adhesive. Not sure how they will hold up though because they haven't been in a running car yet.
Just drill the holes out a little,..push them thru ,...squeeze the legs together a little with a pair of pliers the push them down with a screwdriver,..not hard,...not a fan of the rivets myself,...
Several folks use stainless wire. Form it into a "U". The legs can be made much longer so you can thread them through the holes easier. Then cut off the excess when you are done.
This is what I did. I held the shield where I needed.it.and drilled the holes (very small bit) just enough so the staples.went in. We held the back of the staple with a wooden handle of a hammer and did as above.
