Hi! About to restore the driveshaft and wonder if the factory on 68/69 GS400 painted the driveshaft with "stripes" to diff automatic vs manual? Thanks Chatarina 1968 GS400 Conv.
If you have the assembly manual it will show you the different colors that were used for engine trans combos
Btw, they stripes were put in pretty sloppy originally. Not nice and neat. This is a restored Pontiac shaft but this is how all of the original marks look on original GM cars that we have taken apart. It appears like the shaft was turning and they just held a brush up against it.
We found the old factory stripes! The color is correct according to the book. It is NOT in the middle between the weldings.
Great. We have found them all over the place on old shafts and it proves that what got built didn't always match exactly to what was called out in the books.
Hi! We are gonna brush and paint with stripes one half of driveshaft. Than you can see the difference before and after.Pictures on Sunday.
The driveshaft is painted now. We have problems to send pictures to this forum. But pictures are avalible on Buick GS Owners.
