Machine shop called and said the weight on my Hayes flex plate is in the wrong place, it's opposite to where it should be to balance out. When installed on the crank the weight faces the engine block like it should. So they are going to remove it and weld it in the correct spot still facing the block. Anybody experience this with after market flex plates.
Billy. You're obviously external balancing.is the balancer a external balance one? If it's an internal balance one leave the weight off. FWIW, I've never had a weight on the wrong side.
I had a JW wheel plate that I sent back to have recertification done......they put a different weight on it than what it had before and in a different spot than b4???????????? In fact they actually covered up one set of the converter bolt holes complete.......when I asked them about it they said that where it needed to be so they put it there the rest was up to me to fix....... I was pretty upset and had to drill a new set of converter holes.........thankfully the motor wasn't balanced yet......I would had been more upset then.......guess it shows the benifit to internal balancing
I'm using a romac external balancer. I will be going to the machine shop on Monday and will see if the weight is going to interfere with the converter holes. Also when I got this Hayes flex plate I compared it to my stock 455 flex plate & everything lined up including the weight in the same location.
Better look at the teeth on the flexplate. I had an SFI flexplate that caused me starter problems. It had no offset and it destroyed 2 mini starters before I figured out the problem. The weight was on the engine side. I replaced it with another SFI flexplate that looked like a stock flex plate and the weight faced the transmission like a stock flex plate.
Seen my flex plate today. The weight was moved across the plate & will not interfere with converter mounting holes. The rotating assembly is balanced out & the rest of the motor is coming together. Went zero deck with some wiseco flat tops. Shooting for 12.5 to 1 compression.
