https://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Buick-GS/324353860968?hash=item4b84ff2568:g:quMAAOSwzZZfl1A8 Overall looks like a nice car and it has documentation. I do see a few issues though. Would want to check this out in person if I were serious.
This car ticks most of my boxes (except that it is on eBay), what do you see beyond the missing AIR system, all manifolds missing and non-functional AC? I just want to make sure I am not overlooking an obvious red flag. Thanks.
I didn't notice at first that it's here in Colorado. How about some pictures etc. Bid to 20,200 at the time of this post. 5 days left. Sloan Documented 1972 Buick GS-455 triple black original. With build sheet documenting the cars originality, this is a real GS-455 with its original code 19 Regal Black paint- IT’S NEVER BEEN REPAINTED! According to production numbers only 1099 GS-455 coupes were built in 1972. The black paint is faded and thin in some areas, and there are some minor dings but the paint, vinyl top, interior, headliner and carpet are all original and all black. There is no rust that I can find, no replacement patch panels and it does NOT appear to have ever been wrecked. The car is originally from the Tulsa, OK. area, purchased new at Chuck Naiman Buick. The 455 engine is NUMBERS MATCHING. It still has the original 72 heads and the engine runs excellent. It has an aftermarket Edelbrock B4B intake with the original 800 cfm Rochester carb (choke blade removed). Has coated headers and an old school Stinger ignition from back-in-the-day. The turbo 400 Automatic transmission is original with matching numbers as is the 3.42 posi rear end. This is a factory A/C car which is currently not working but it’s all there and the belt is on the compressor. Unfortunately, I can’t prove the cars mileage due to its age but it currently shows 63k. Some notable factory options on the car include: N31 rally steering wheel, N33 tilt wheel, U30 instrument gauges, UG5 rally clock, Y10 custom build-up, N40 power steering, A51 front bucket seats, B93 door edge guards, D35 dual sport mirrors,C60 air conditioning, D55 console, K19 air injector pump (missing) and WD5 special paint, and more. For its age, it’s in great condition, runs and drives very nice and it’s quite rare. Great opportunity to own something real and very unique. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. However, I will assist and make sure it gets loaded. Really want to see my car go to a collector- it's hard to let it go. NOTE: This is NOT a Stage I car!!
He claims it’s original paint. However, the piece of body side molding is missing on the drivers side quarter panel. Maybe no big deal or maybe that quarter was repaired at some point, can’t tell. Also the front hood molding is all chrome and not painted correctly. Again, maybe no big deal who knows. The emissions equipment was obviously deleted which is no biggie, I’ve never seen a crankcase breather attached to the side of an intake breather like that Personally I would want to see the car in person just because I’ve been burned on eBay before on a car that looked even nicer in pictures than this one does. I do like this car and if it actually is as described it would be a good one to have obviously.
BB - Thanks, I noticed the missing body molding too but it looks like you can see where it was previously attached so I thought that was reasonable but I agree hard to tell from the photos. Good catch on the hood piece. For sure there is a lot of stuff to fix and I agree that breather is quite something. If I recall correctly a 72 intake manifold is a one off piece as well which is a challenge and getting original AIR parts is also hard. All the Stage 1 underhood callout stuff needs to go as well. I am fine with that sort of detail work for the price and condition. I am definitely with you on the eBay concerns.
Well it's already been pulled "due to an error in the listing." So, who made the seller an offer he couldn't refuse?
Looks like a nice GS for the money being a big block the only thing I would do would replace the driver side quarter panel molding polish it up and add the correct air breather hose and enjoy it.
I am surprised that he is letting it go for such a low BIN price ($24K). If it's as good as claimed, it seems like a good deal.
That drivers side quarter panel looks suspiciously darker, newer & different surface texture than the rest of the car (I converted it to black & white pic to help see “inconsistencies “). Would definitely be checking in the trunk & pulling the drivers door jamb vent & putting a flashlight to the 1/4’s interior. Crappy picture but “looks” like a leak under the Pinion seal. As already mentioned by others, you need to have it checked out in person. I also thought the seller made a very odd comment after the “matching numbers motor” to specifically say that the cylinder heads were original. What the hell? Shouldn’t need to add that after saying matching numbers motor. Something sounds fishy
