Worked on my daughter's 08 Trailblazer yesterday before work and today this morning replacing the badly cracked exhaust manifold and the passenger side motor mount, then changing the oil. It took about 4 hours but will take me 2-3 days to stop feeling the pains from stretching, laying on my back and moving my body in ways I normally don't put it in..To only be back to the days of laying on the ground heaving a 4 speed transmission in and out would be great..I guess I need a lift...
If really do feel your pain. I have arthritis in both knees, hands, elbows, neck as well as tendonitis in both thumbs. Some days, getting up hurts, never mind getting up after working on my old girl. Too long working in the Arctic outside. Loving winter in southern Alberta, winter is, well, short and interrupted a lot by Chinooks.
Spent 4 hours Thursday putting the newly rechromed bumper back on my 69 Riviera which included time on my back plus had to remove rear wheels ( they are big and heavy) and bolt the last 4’ of exhaust pipes and resonators. Got it all done and car looks great and the body aches!
About 5-6 years ago I got under a TH400 and wiggled it back off its pins and nearly broke my ribs + got pinned under the car for a few mins. Back in "the day" I clearly remember doing that in and out with no real problems other than holding the tail shaft up with my leg while starting the bell housing bolts . Getting old aint for sissys
I have not gotten weaker as I have become older; it's just that they are making car parts heavier these days.
You are absolutely right!! If we sell this place next year,my new garage will have not 1 but 2 in it..
Another here who feels your pain, literally. But I’m thankful to be able to pay for the heavy work and still enjoying the lighter, fun stuff myself.
I plan to build a 40x60 or 40x80 garage and want a lift that will hold my dually and one about 6000 lbs I want the drive on types though..I will store vehicles on them and under them when unneeded.
The next time I bench press a transmission I plan to fill it with helium first to make it lighter. Just have to be careful not to overfill it or it might rise up into the sky never to be seen again...
Hiring someone to do the heavy lifting is a good idea, if I could just stay out of their way while checking their work! Bob H.
