I remember that conversation Roy. :>) IMHO, in this case I think it is more about location. I sold my 68 Wildcat Convertible on CL last month, took one day. The buyer was looking for more big converts to send to Europe. I sent pics of Marc's, and he said right now he is not even considering cars in Canada, too much of a hassle. And Marc's car (distance wise) was closer to him than mine was. He said if it was in US, he would have bought it. Unfortunately, someone in the US buying a car in Canada right now, they are likely having to do it without being able to inspect the car themselves. SO, for that risk, they want a bigger discount on price to compensate for it and the shipping hassles. Canadian sellers don't want to have to "give" their cars away to get a US buyer, can't blame them. So there is the stalemate, and the car doesn't sell quickly.
Yeah, I couldn't have picked a worse time to try and sell it. No biggie, it'll just hold down a corner in my garage and I'll try again in spring. Maybe by then the border will have opened up, and getting it across the line won't be so difficult. I'd like to see it go to a good home; here the problem is once the motor is finally old enough and packs it in, it'll end up as an LS swap or even worse; - there's a 59 Invicta convertible running a normally aspirated 3.8, most disgusting thing I've ever heard, and it's driven by some recent Syrian refugees who don't know any better and figure it's the greatest thing since automated camel washers.
So it's still here...not a bite, just a couple of long distance potential scammers, who looked kinda sketchy, shippers wanting me to ship, but not knowing how much it costs. I've opened up trades for either a 1959 Buick (preferably an Invicta or an Electra, I'll consider a well optioned LeSabre if nothing else) or a 50s-60s vintage Mercedes. So it looks like I'll be hanging on to it until spring.
There's a sale pending, the car might be heading to Indianapolis. It's now a question of what the buyer can get set up. Buyer is getting a great deal!
Marc Congratulations ! I hope everything gets worked out to your satisfaction. Looks like a fine car.
Congrats Mark, that’s good news. I did think long and hard of trading “up” to the Wildcat but I couldn’t justifying having both. You have a winning color combo so it was only a matter of time.
Sweet, I think that is the guy I sent the info to about your car. His just got rear ended and totaled, correct?
SOLD! The car is headed to Indianapolis, the buyer got a screaming deal with the exchange rate, now all he has to do is figure out how to get it there. Working with him on that...
It finally left my property today. Very bittersweet day; I still really liked the car, just knew I physically don't have it in me to do another mechanical restoration which is what that thing will likely want within the next 5 years. I had no idea it was going to be such a hassle to get a car shipped into the US. The buyer had a terrible time getting it all set up. US customs is a real b---h. Then it was the weather, we had one blizzard after another, then is was that the trucker was too stupid to figure out how big the car was, and now finally it's gone. Loaded it up a couple of hours ago, now it's headed to Indianapolis to a really cool dude who loves 67 Wildcats. I hope he's happy with it, he got a great deal as the car would have sold for twice what he paid for it in the States. Everyone's happy, and I no longer want to cry when I look in the garage. Now down to one Buick where there were once 5, and that was only 3 years ago.
Glad the trucking company finally came through for you. My 68 is asleep in a warehouse for the winter as it didn't sell.
