41Speciman - are you able to help a courier offload at your address? I have another shipper who asked for help to load and unload. They have said that they have a liftgate - so maybe no forklift truck? Let me know and I'll get a price from them. Thanks - and again - sorry for the back and forth. Trying my best to make this work - but it's dang spendy to ship!
Wow....... That would have made it a bit easier. Let me run this to ground with 41Specimen - and give it our best shot. I always go through the list from first to last - to honor the way people have responded. Nice to know you are here though. I really want this thing to go to a good home - as I think it is a pretty cool piece.
I bought a transmission from board member and he used a couple inexpensive ratchet straps to tie it to the pallet. Worked great. Carolina to Illinois
That’s my plan as well, to mount the converter, slip the yoke on, strap it to a pallet, bag us the extra bits and wrap it in plastic. Don’t have the pallet or plastic, but I’ll figure that out.
Jim talked to fastenal they recieve shipments in Evens called 3pl so Im emailing someone here suggested now
It's easy guys.. do Fastenal shipping all the time. Fastenal is a store to store shipping deal. It's so cheap because they are using your freight to fill trucks that are already going there. As such, there is no guarrantee on shipping times.. if there is room on the truck it goes, if not, it sits in the warehouse until the next truck.. the longest I have waited on cross country shipping is about two weeks. If you box up your parts, they will insure it if it's fully enclosed in wood.. or just ratchet strap it to a pallet and hope for the best. Then go online, and fill out the request form.. the buyer or the seller can do it.. does not matter, You get a quote back, and then follow the steps and fill out the forms to accept the quote. Then they transmit the paperwork to both shipping and receiving locations. The shipper then goes to the shipping store, where they will unload it with a forklift. Once the shipment gets to the receiving store, they call you and let you know it's ready for pickup. Both sender and receiver should bring ID with them. Either the sender or the receiver pays for it, you can just put it on your fastenal account if you have one. All there is to it.. they typically are 1/3 to 1/2 price of normal LTL shippers. JW
Hey Jim, thanks for wading in and offering guidance. That was the first company that I checked (Fastenal) - per 41Specimen's suggestion. Their shipping cost was fair ($198 for 175lbs) - but the closest they could get to 41Specimen was Douglas, Wyoming (3.5 hrs. North). Due to COVID they are not shipping between their Eastern and Western zones - and they said that Tucson to Greeley, CO. fell into their Western to Eastern Zones. Go figure. 41Specimen is trying it from his side - and we should know today. Like your Lincoln quote by the way. Big fan of the tall Man.
Ya, I don't understand that silly east/west zone thing.. pain in the butt for me this winter, had to ship several things via LTL lines. More money, and I have to actually build a crate for them, as opposed to using my custom shipping crates, which fastenal will send back to me from anywhere in the country for 50-75 bucks.. the LTL lines want nearly as much to ship it empty, as to ship it full. With the deal you gave him on that setup, there is room for LTL from dock to door.. JW
