While my passion for Buicks is pretty much well known - Lord Vader in particular - I do have other interests and I don't think the topic of outside interests has been touched on. At least not as far as I remember. I've posted in the cooking thread recently but music has always been another passion of mine. It started in the late 80's, when "hair bands" were prevalent. As the decade closed - and MTV moved to the "unplugged" genre, I traded in my Kramer electric guitar for the Ibanez acoustic I still have today. At that time, I played so much that I could listen to a song on the radio a few times (remember that?) and figure it out. I recently had this guitar's neck adjusted and it sounds like new.
Nice. I see you have the same poor form as me LOL(thumb on top of the neck). An old instrument is actually better than new. As the instrument is played, the wood on the soundboard vibrates and actually loosens, so a well played wooden guitar sounds better than a new one... Nice singing too! Do you take requests?
I have always wanted to take up the guitar but never pulled the trigger. Very nice, Brett. I'm impressed. If fishing counts as a hobby instead of a sport, then that would be mine. It started early for me growing up around salt water in So. FL. Dad had a fishing pole in my hands as early as 2-3 years old. It has progressed to the mountains of north Georgia seeking trout and to the flats in the Big Bend region of FL. I don't consider myself an expert by any means and I think a hobby should be more casual and relaxing. Here's a picture of me with one of the larger spotted seatrout I have caught in the Big Bend around Steinhatchee, FL.
Nice, I always admired people with musical abilities. They always seem to have other artistic talents. I could always build and fix things. I could design with ruler and a square but forget about painting, drawing or music. I was an avid big game/tournament fisherman for the past 20 years. It got to be to time and resources consuming. I’ve gone back to simple inshore saltwater and freshwater fishing occasionally.
I airbrush to help pass the time. I am retired and have a lot of it...lol Here is my shameless plug...I did this to hang from the mirror of my 69...A 2 inch metal disc i had ...just for something to do https://www.facebook.com/woodwrd I also did one for my wife to hang near her desk for when her car is sleeping.... And here is something I did on my daily driver... Cheers and stay safe
I been playing guitar since my teens. withen the last 5 yrs Ive been actually learning how to set up a guitar. So much more than just tuning the strings and playing.
I fly drones and have an RC Truck that is a blast. I can't take my car to where I drive my Hexacopter though, it is a wet rough gravel road and I wouldn't subject my girl to that
Here's an idea I've thought about having someone talented w/airbrushing try: Seems one could m/l duplicate the look of spiral shocks w/ airbrushing. At least enough that if you looked at a glance they'd look pretty correct.
Dabble in simple woodworking, restoring old firearms. My avatar is one of the flags I made, the rest were sent out as gifts.
My biggest passion is boating and salt-water fishing. Since 14 years old, I have had a ski boat of some sort. I bought my 1969 California Lo-Pro Sidewinder in 2007. I am the second owner and it isn't practical, but sure is fun. My other hobby is vintage audio gear and recording to various analog formats. Nando.
71staged I had a 15' checkmate v mate with a 115 Merc, not as nice as yours but would still do 58-60 mph.
I've got a number of hobbies, right now my biggest passion is restoring/rebuilding old pocket watches. This one is from 1800 and was made in England. It runs very well and just needed a cleaning. Most of the ones I do are American pocket watches from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they're far better made than anything today. The 1928 Ball-Hamilton in the pictures is still more accurate than anything the Swiss have ever built, and it's made with a precision and quality that they still can't duplicate.
Antique gas pumps. They are a project u can walk away from and use to fill time between car projects. I put 3 up on a cat walk in my garage a few years ago. 10’ high with a beam lift. I don’t know how I will get them back down if we ever move. What a difference a few years can make. I guess I’ll sell them with the place when the time comes
I watched a recent episode of restoration garage and the owner of the guild is into restoring watches. Like everything else he jumped into it deep. My fat fingers would never allow me to work on anything that intricate
