Well, long story short (I hope). I was into Buicks many years ago when I used to go to the GS Nationals with my dad and his ’72 Stage 1. My first national was in 1984 and went every year since then until around 1993. Through the years I always wanted to get a Buick but never did. Several months ago I decided to book a trip to the nationals (first time back in nearly 30 years). Just out of dumb luck I stumbled across and bought a 1972 Skylark Stage 2 Tribute about a week before the nationals. The nationals were a blast and purchasing the car just before hand made it even better. Now I’m excited to be part of the Buick community. I’m sure I’ll have a lot of questions along the way, but hopefully I’ll be able to start contributing sooner rather than later. Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks for viewing, Jim
Great story Jim - Welcome (back)! My 1st Nationals was '85 (I was 18 and cut HS & drove 700 miles to get there) & was there every year 'til '98 (then '17-18 & '21) so we've surely crossed paths there!
Welcome! Central Ohio here. Your lucky to be up north near Gary(Thumper). Gary is a great engine builder and a wealth of knowledge. He has some rare BUICKs in his collection. Worth a trip if you ever get an opportunity to visit….looking forward to some post’s
Thanks for all the comments! Dano - Cutting HS to go to the nationals ... now that's a great story! Chris - I actually did see Gary's collection and it is truly amazing. Gary - I don't know if you remember me, but I stopped by your house several years ago in my Z06 (pre mods) to check out a '71 GS455 you were selling. It was a pleasure meeting you and seeing your collection. Here are a few pictures. I don't have many at the moment. I believe the previous owner was a member of this forum.
I remember now, nice Z06, but now you've entered the dark side, lol. I did sell the 71, to a Pa highway patrolman. Great guy and has brought it to Buick events. I love the color on your acquisition, looks fast, would love to see it sometime.
Briz - Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take the car to the nationals. The car was in storage for several years, so I just trailered it home and now in my "free time" I'm going through the whole car to make sure it's safe and reliable to drive ... but I did get several needed items at the swap meet. Gary - I'm looking forward to getting together with you and talking shop once I get the car road-worthy.
