I'm sure it's been brought up but caught this "Junk Yard Gold"show with Steve Magnete this morning. He came across a factory 1964 4dr Wildcat with the 425 dual quad which was cool but what I have never seen was a Buick press picture he added with what looked like a older woman leaning over a new 425 dual quad which had the heads off but bolted on or supported on both sides towards the back of the block which exposed 2 pistons on each side and 4 pushrods coming out still in the lifters.. The intake with carbs was also slide back with the air cleaner behind it. Never ever saw this pic and was so cool..
Yup, he knows his cars! I was watching it on my TV and don't know how to download from the TV. Walt i'm 99.9% sure this Motor Trend magazine pic was the motor used. Only difference was the heads were on the half back of the block and less push rods were used because of the heads location. The unpainted intake and heads match "unless they were expeirmental aluminum cast and reason for lack of paint??" The pic also showed the big air dual snorkel behind the motor. Just like this pic, it had the clutch fan but no blades and no belts. I wanted to ring a Buick Sighting alarm for all here to turn to the Motor Trend Channel The 4 dr Wildcat was a automatic which Steve was hoping for a 4 speed and the only thing wrong was someone had replaced both Carter AFB's with the Rochester 4 jets..
Walt, sorry for the double reply post but wanted to ask you about the high output nailhead options. Really should of made a separate thread for this question. Did the the factory 401 340 hp. Q-jet option or did even the factory built 64 to 65 425 dual quad option have better engine clearances? were they closer to the 10.25 compression or just grabbed from the line and the cam and Q-jet added?
I would guess they had the same production clearances. The NHRA specs show smaller chamber volumes and deck clearance. That's where the racers would legally increase the CR during blueprinting.
No he doesn't!......Even I can tell that was the Pontiac that John Delorean was street racing in a scene from "The Cars that built America".
The show was actually season 1 ep 7 as my cable guide always makes mistakes and it mentions its a 65 Wildcat on Junk Yard Golds guide but its a 4dr 64. Walt they sure look like the motor in The Motor Trend mag pic.. You can see the Rochester 4 jet someone swapped in instead of the AFB's in the pic up top of the car in the yard.
There are some nice cars in this junk yard when it was first aired in 2018 which surprises me.. I guess they are still out there in some form..
