So let's pass some advice around thats helped us stand out, live by. My dad taught me these from a young age. Always stand when someone enters the room (remove hat). Offer then a firm handshake while making brief eye contact and offer them your seat (especially for women). When its time to work, work. Even though it might be impossible in some careers be the guy that's talked about in a positive light never negative. This last one is my all time favorite. Never let your superiors catch you slacking or messing around. If you have nothing to do pick up a broom and sweep. Theirs always something to sweep or clean.
Listen more than you talk. You might come off as the quiet guy but you'll be more aware of what's going on around you.
My great grandmother (when referring to someone taking a nap). “ Only two types of people lay down during the daytime, whores and the dying”.
Let the quality of your work speak for itself. If it's done correctly it will speak volumes for you. Nothing verbal needs said. Keith
Three from my dad. ‘Every workplace is going to have a group of people standing around the water cooler bitching about something. Don’t be one of them.’ ‘Bosses are like buses. If you don’t like the one you have a different one will show up sooner or later.’ ‘Say what you mean, and mean what you say.’ Patrick
Growing up my neighbor's dad (Mr. Kedzierski) taught me to practice saying "yes dear" as that would make my life a lot easier.
I gave both my son in laws a few more words than that. I told them they needed to know these 9 words. Yes Dear, Your Always Right, and It's All My Fault. So far they have happy marriages.
Had a fellow talking about doing quality work, he said "if you don't have time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to do it over?"
I always tell my guys that work isn't life. Work is only a way to pay for your real life. Your real life is what you do and who you live with after you punch the clock at night. Only worry about that.
Do not mess with women named Melissa,....unless a clear path of escape is close by,...and Nikki's ,....stay away from those too
