The 60/40 power drv seat on my Electra doesn´t work. The relais clicks when using the switch, but the seat doesn´t move. All components "sort of" work for themselves, when on the bench. The motor, however, gets hot, starts to smell and does not have sufficient power to turn the transmission. I had the transmission apart, cleaned and greased it, still the gears are kind of tight. I didn´t find ANY nylon washer in the housing and I am pretty sure that Bubba was there, as somebody installed four or five additional ground wires from the motor and transmission to the seat tracks for some odd reason. Furthermore, the solenoids look brand new and work fine when triggered. Where would I be able to find a new, properly rebuild or proven working power seat motor and transmission or interior spare parts for the transmission? I would like to avoid buying junk from fleabay that doesn´t work any better than what I have.
so the gear drive is bound up? the motor itself can be rewound and rebuilt. you should be able to put just off the shelf bearings/washers in there from a hardware store and accomplish the same thing. all big cars had this. you need to probably degunk the trans hone everything etc..
I´d appreciate anything about pwr seats, pwr windows, door panels and, as turned out, automatic HVAC (no heat). pn or email would be great, if posting is not an option.
My 74 Fisher Body manual seems to have what you are looking for. When I bought the Chassis (or shop) manual I got the body manual with it. I was going to post a picture from the manual but it won't let me take one electronically.
Were you able to fix this? I have the same problem on my '71. It seems like my motor might be a little weak, but it works on the bench. It won't go backwards or up in the rear. I took the transmission lines off their screws and screwed it by hand with the back of a tap (the square end) it moved back and forth easily. So I'm not sure if the problem is the transmission or the motor. Any ideas?

I have not - yet. Hoped to find a good drawing or parts list to determine, if any parts like nylon washers and so on are missing, but no luck so far. I know of a guy in Tarpon Beach FL who rebuilds this stuff - to the highest standards, from what I understand - but he wants 1800 for a complete system and I am not ready yet to spend that much. Any advice on the nylon washer dimensions (ID, OD, thickness) and/or a source for purchase would be appreciated.
The video is good, but the transmission is only part of the story. The motor is another source for faults, so is the switch. And finally, from what I understand there are nylon sliders on the seat tracks that tend to break or go missing. All those little things add up and keep the seat from moving as designed.
I just happened to have watched that video, right before reading this thread. I'm pretty sure that is the issue with my seat.
That’s very helpful! I understand the old grease in the transmission often makes them bind and simply cleaning and replacing the grease gets them to work again. I’m going to try that.
I followed that guys advice and lubed stuff and bench tested it. It works better now! I hope that was it! The middle shaft that controls the seat back and forth had some dried lube on it that made it sticky to engage.
So I put it back together and same problem. I think it is the switch. Its confusing because I hear clicking in the solenoids of the transmission. But the switch sends power two places. One to the solenoid and another to the motor. The yellow wire to the motor doesn't seem to be getting power.
You should be able to check the various functions of the switch with a test light. Re-read post #14. My system works great on the bench but nothing in the car. ALL the components need to be in good working order, if one is at fault, you´ll have a good chance the seat won´t move. Did you get chance to measure those nylon washer?
