I have a 66 skylark 300 with the two barrel rochester carb. the throttle shaft is worn so it needs to be replaced. I am installing a 200r trans and need to hook up a tv cable. Iwas thinking of a swap to a 4 barrel any ideas on a good replacement, also how well does the 2 to 4 adapter work?
I think a 2 to 4bbl adapter is a terrible idea. I would repair your 2bbl. It may just need bushings for the throttle shaft. If not, replace the throttle shaft. Ken (techg8) at Everyday Performance could probably advise you better, and he is familiar with the needs of the TH2004R. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?forums/everyday-performance-llc.172/ https://www.everyday-performance.com/quadrajet_carburetors.htm
Bowtie also has solutions to almost every OD trans requirement: http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/ Its best to call them and talk through your needs.
thats where my trans comes from, I called them and sent pictures of my stock carb linkage and they do not make a tv setup for this 2 barrel carb
Wow - I'm surprised! See if Ken can help. Lots of info on the web on how to do it. Most q-jets need custom work to get everything set up correctly anyway. See here for a chart that has the correct geometry - about half way down the page: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=408480 Or, and this is just a thought - switch to a 2 bbl Holley and use their kit. or buy what rus found!
Another option. Here is the setup from everyday performance, Works great on both of my 200-4r transmission.
Post a pic of the linkage side of your carb. See this carb :https://swperformanceparts.com/prod...w8HhQFcoFuKeZZVrQG_dahgcAOpnHNE4aAqgFEALw_wcB That linkage looks correct for the TV cable. So you need a carb from a 1981 to 1990 when GM used the 2004r. You can swap the linkage to your carb or maybe use it.
You could try to find a factory 4-barrel intake manifold and do the swap right. It will perform better, likely get better fuel economy too. Probably not an easy find, but you may surprise yourself as they aren't exactly in high demand. It's a good excuse to get out and troll some old junkyards, or even put a want ad here.
If you do go with the Quad and need to rebush primary shaft, could always look for a second late model Quad that came from a rig that had a 200r from factory. And swap primary shafts for that. I believe it is a swap that is doable.
Good read - see post 2 :https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/200r4-shift-problems.215844/ Another good read: http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/techinfo/700R4p1.html
my 66 has an aluminum 2 barell on it now that in am told was only on a 64. maybe the engine or heads have been swaped will this 64 manifold fit?
