First pass is almost always my best haha,...I've often said I should only run once then put it up because it's not gonna get better ha
Went three rounds today. Last round cut a .001 green and made the rookie mistake of not running it out all the way. Gave the round away at the finish line. Oh well. Had fun today. Driving the 400 tomorrow for the 462 engine swap. Hoping engine will be running and complete by June 11th (next race date)
Nice light!!! (.001) You likely won't see another one of those for a while! I have a full weight 72 Skylark with 3.90 gears and stock 70 455 (not rebuilt), small valve heads but ported, SP2 cam, headers, Performer, Q-jet, 2500 conv, T350. Has gone 12.20s with the 3.90 gears and 12.60s with 2.56 gears. And years ago same motor with 3800 converter, 850 TQ and electric water pump and no PS. 11.80s with a best of 11.66. Just some inspiration....
Previous round .064 light. Some guy(fathers friend Rondo) donated a TCI 3000 torque converter for my car. Thatl go in with engine swap.
My old '69 Sportwagon 400 with a just a stock rebuild & headers went 14.30's back in the 80's. I was kinda surprised it was that quick. Good weight transfer.
I have seen a old road test article for the 69 GS 400 with the Stage1 package. 14.40 with alot of tire spin. The stock 400 was in the 14.70 range. All with stock tires. Your 14.58 is great
I had a better pass of 14.46 recently. No tire spin at all. Hooks good with a 4-5 sec burnout. Leaving at 1000 RPM
Yep. off the show room "Blue" went 14.7 on stock tires, 4speed. 3.64 gears, before the stage2 install. Then a 13.10 was best I could muster on stock tires, slicks put her 12.5 with a best of 12.38, launching with a stick and slicks was a craft, bog or spin, it was a fine line.
https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/jeremys-455-motor-build-thread.376332/page-2#post-3301542 Will be putting on carb and fuel line next. Stock iron heads with bigger valves. Didn't have the money for aluminum at this time, plus all out of stock.
Those things belong on the ark where the come from haha,...stock suspension is all that's needed till you get into the low 11s,...
Nice! Was the Stage2 package really that unstreetable? Had to be at least 100 hp difference? I'm guessing no exhaust..
Tracks these days are alot better. I had to use all kinds of traction aids in the 80s/early 90s. Southside bars, air bags, even 2 big wheels/tires in the trunk, etc. Always looking for something. One of the reason you still see tubbed cars out there....not really necessary now IMO. Tracks and tires have come a long way. The smallblock chevy guys had an easier time of it. I would spin 1 out of 3 passes. Hard to be competitive.
Way back my 69 400 ran 14.43 @97 mph stock except 1 7/8 headers on 245 bfg radials ..swapped on a set of Hoosier dirt bozz tires went 14.23 but lost 3 mph ..I think your pass was a good strong Showing of a GS 400
Not sure if I read it here or again from a article from back in the days. The stock 2.93 geared 400 would be 4 car lengths behind the 400 with the Stage1 option at the end of the 1/4. How much is gears or how much is the hotter cam? This isn't my real world experience LOL just what I have read..
I have a 68 GS 400 convertible. I put the hooker headers on it that actually came through the frame and back around, along with a B4B aluminum intake, and a BIG Holley carb. It did 14.99 at almost 100 mph with a hellacious one tire fire. Oh, the good old days! I don’t beat on that car anymore because the engine is original, and never been rebuilt.
