How much overspray is correct for a GSX on the backside of the headlight doors? If anyone has a picture of an original headlight door please post them up..I. trying to figure out if the backsides of mine have been touched. There is literally zero yellow on the backs. Looks too nice as if the doors were masked off and the backsides painted black.
Yep....looks like these were touched up to make them look nicer They were painted just where they show when the hood is up. The rest has the factory overspray. I'm going to have to address this somehow and try and duplicate the sloppiness of the factory.
that’s exactly how I took it from your pics. Hard to believe! I suppose to hit that back lip? Maybe hung somehow in a fixture?
I can have apriecation for what your trying to accomplish, after doing a frame off restoration on a numbers matching 68 Corvette, but the question would be, are you having the car judged and is that something that would be looked at in judging or is personal satisfaction that you want it spot on, the it came from the factory, I admire both. I chose to lose points on the NCRS judging because I made things nicer then factory like what your up against, I chose to make it neat as far as overspray.
I thought yours were good already? LOL. Find something that is actually wrong with your car, could you?
I made a post as a reply and it blended into a quote, can't fix that. I always enjoy this hobby, when we have something nearby perfect the find was of getting sloppy on purpose, LOL!
Fixed it for you..... Im trying to make it as close to factory correct as possible. I did update my GSX thread with some before and after pics but I'll post a couple here too of the results. I carefully sanded off all the black paint that was applied, masked off only the affected area and sprayed it with Sem trim black. Then carefully misted saturn yellow in the same direction as the original painter did. Here are the results Al- And the before and after-
Thanks, look correct. I remember I was able to order those head light doors new at Miller Motors Buick in the 70s, yep, I'm old,LOL!
