Fixing up an old air cleaner for a future project. Don't seem to have anything for these 2 holes in the parts box when I disassembled it last year... Tried googling pictures and even pics on ebay and all air cleaners I find have nothing there. My 72 GS air cleaner also has nothing... are they supposed to be empty? Thanks
I think in 72, there was a plastic elbow thst went in the large hole. A hose connected to it and went to the charcoal cannister? The other small hole just allows water to drain out of the housing.
We talked about this elbow in another thread. I believe the 72 elbows were black, and the 70 California only elbows were white. Duane
I don't remember off the top of my head, but think they were also black. I have an original set-up on my 71 GSX, including the original emission hoses with the factory heat embossed/painted letter codes. I will have to look. I vaguely remember the 70 California only elbows as being the only ones with the white plastic elbows. I had a 70 GSX with that set-up and remember going through hell trying to find that stupid little fitting because it was missing from my car. One of my friends from California finally found one for me. Troy, here is a little tip on how to clean up the hoses. Mine were pretty dirty when I found them, and as the original heat embossed/painted hoses are not reproduced correctly I wanted to save/use them. One of the guys at Mark's shop showed me the trick. We took the hoses into the bathroom and carefully "hand" washed them with Orange Pumice hand cleaner, taking care not to scrub them too hard so as not to take off the painted letters. After the first washing they only had a few dirty spots, so after taking care of that, they ended up looking perfect. You know me and recycling. Later, when the car was on the show field, people kept asking me where I found those NOS hoses. Duane
This is an original paint air cleaner on a 72 car, you can see the white part of the elbow. Also the 72 I have now is a white elbow. I have had to purchase complete air cleaners to get the extra ones that I have. .
The '72 GS455 convertible (built 09D, 1971) that my dad restored for a customer had a white elbow. The car is still owned by the original owner and we feel confident that it's original to the car.
