Also took the time to adjust the hood height bumpers, I should have taken a picture of the before, but anyway looks much better now, it’s the little things that stick out to me like that and panel. & door gaps!
Today was do something with the front bumper filler, it had been stained by a million things and because I want this car as original as possible, but hated how bad it looked and didn’t want to re-paint it. I tried cleaning it with everything and nothing worked, so I thought maybe some cut and buffing might do it and what did I have to lose, screw it up and re-paint it anyway. Well after about 3 hours and doing it all by hand it worked out pretty good, so still ALL ORIGINAL PAINT! The first 6 show before, # 7 shows half done, half not, then finished. Anything left is a scratch that I can’t remove.
I found a couple of examples of how poor Quality Control was back in 1973. Also these are a couple of “tells” on whether or not a 1973 has original paint or not. First picture shows ribs on every single vent in the hood, hard to see unless the light is just right. Second is the runs on the front bumper filler, apparent they were hung vertically from one end when primed because they all run from passenger to driver side. I was going to sand them out but it went immediately to black primer so I stopped. Anyway I thought it interesting
You may run out of repairs to make and start with some tasteful upgrades like a high hp stock appearing engine. Nice work again.
I can understand wanting more motor, but this car has to stay a Survivor, nothing can be changed from that perspective, can’t even repaint things. Besides I have these with plenty of motor to raise he’ll in!
The black Buick has some good rubber on the ground. What is the decal on the fender on the mustang? No permanent changes just temporary ones.
That’s a Dominator Mustang, and a 20th Anniversary edition, 1 of 5 produced. I bought it new, the dealership guaranteed a 13.9 sec. Car or better. It’s the Yenko of Mustangs back in the 1980’s.
I received my Christmas present to myself today, the dealership that took delivery of The Survivor license plate bracket.
Found this picture from back in the 1980’s of the first ‘73 I had, bought it for $500 and restored it.
Looking at your first ‘73 and the one you have now, it appears they are the same color combo. So what determined the decal colors since they are different?
The older one was much darker, 66 Taupe iridescent I believe, so darker got white decals would be my guess. This one is actually much lighter in Green Gold metallic 46.
Taupe metallic only 11 1973 stage 1 with that color. The 4th rarest. I wonder how many 73 gs 350 cars got it. Cool color.
