Hi. Just wondering what stall most of you racers would suggest on this motor? I understand a stall is different on every motor and it’s just a # bit about to order a new carb and builder is asking about it. thanks.
I always like to lean toward lower stall so locks up better on top end and you can feel shifts. I run a 4200 ATI 8in. May not leave as hard as a 4500-5000 but easier on parts and less likely to spin if track goes away. But some people only race a couple times a year and want to show off....then run a 4800-5000....closer to your peak torque. Side note: wonder why oil pressure going down on top end?? I like to see 80 at 6500.
Thanks for the reply Larry...Yes, mostly a drag car only. Might drive it to the track about 15 min up the highway once on a Friday night to show some "Street Cars" what an old Buick will do on the no prep class they started doing. But it's mostly a bracket car for Sunday drags. Thanks for the reply. That is what I was thinking myself..around 4200-4500. We did get the oil pressure figured out. Needed to build a custom windage tray for the SRE Pan. Now running about 90 lbs at 6500..
If you flashed 4000-4500 i would think you would like the results. But I would want to stay with a 9.5 or 10" core. Is this a foot brake setip
I like tight 8in due to being alot lighter than 9.5 or 10in. Less weight on crank....good thing for our motors.
For a light car i would argue, but you can't the multiplication factor as well out of small diameter converters. Sometimes size matters no matter what she supposedly said
Whoever use just make sure it’s a company that is familiar with Buick. Torque characteristics fill out a spec sheet with as much information as possible. A good converter is not cheap!I prefer Coan, they steered me away from an 8 inch converter and recommended their 10 inch. A little extra weight will help with a heavy car giving more inertia.
Gave ALL info on Jag to ATI and they said it would run low 11s when it was running 9.70s. So much for computers....
I tried Coan,..ATI,..and Ultimate with my orange car,...none of them would 60ft for ****,...used a local guy out of Asheville Gregg,.. he's no longer in bizz,..but his verter,...spot on 1.44 first time out,...so I wouldn't get too caught up in the who's who,...it's a crap shoot from my experience Guy from Coan I believe it was wanted to know if I had datalog info,...from a 10.80 car,...?? Nah bud I'm running a 25yrold Mallory box hahaha
you want to talk about a heavy converter 4l80e triple disc. The whole transmission I believe is 112 pounds heavier than a turbo 400 we’ll see. If I don’t like it it’ll be ripped out and sold!
