Installed a new proportional valve along with all new brake lines, during the restoration process. All the lines have been bleed and the brakes were good to go. Just got it back from the paint booth and the proportional valve is leaking at the reset cap. I don't know what to do to remedy this issue. Any help would be appreciated.
Reproduction valve? Maybe can be fixed in place but I think you're going to wind up needing to pull it.
yes reproduction, do you think I need to replace the whole unit or is there something to correct on this?
I don't know enough about the inner workings of them to say gor sure. I think there's a thread on here about them. IIRC, someone was having a hard pedal and there was some discussion. Nice that it's painted! Hope you're well otherwise.
Other than hard lines, I'm very leery of repro brake parts which is why I asked. Also leery of Chinese brake parts even if from a regular manuf. Just bought a pair of AC Delco rear drum brake adjuster kits from Rock Auto. One side Made In US, the other side Made In China. All the AC Delco rubber brake hoses also Chinese.
There is a valve stem under the rubber boot. The seal for that valve stem has failed. The part is defective, and should be replaced.
I had one fail and leak. Don’t recall from where it was leaking but yeah like others have said toss it and buy a new one. I was thinking my headers being very near and the fact that my timing was off (issue with my distributor at the time) causing my headers to be hotter than normal was what caused my to fail. I put a new one on and added a small heat shield for peace of mind and it’s been fine. I took mine apart but in the end I decided to just buy new. Good luck.
