A low mileage 1970 Skylark sure would make a nice home for an iron-head Stage 2 455 Good luck with your search.
Found and just got it home, what I needed for my Iron Head Stage 2 4-speed project….1972 Skylark in Flame Orange to match my 72 Stage 1, what luck right? All original including paint with only 40,600 miles. Non AC, bench, power brakes and steering. The only thing changed is it was a white top and they painted it black, it will try and go back white. This car was built 108 cars after my Stage 1, according to VIN, maybe same day even. Kinda cool. Tiny little tires P205-75-14 by Fidelity tires.
Aren't you very lucky. I was really wondering if you would ever find what you wanted. Trying to find a base Skylark with low mileage, no RUST, original paint is very hard find. Did you say you were looking for a 1970 Skylark? Glad you found mostly what you wanted. It will be a great sleeper car.
I would have taken a 70, but to me a Skylark 1970-72 all the same to me, just got super lucky to find a perfect match to my Stage 1, bookends They aren’t super hard to find, but most are convertibles.
Congratulations on finding a suitable car. I saw that car on FB awhile back when they appeared to be removing it from a self-storage unit but didn’t list it for sale and again recently when they finally posted it for sale. I didn’t post it as a lead for you because you posted that you wanted a ‘70. I thought this ‘72 would be a great candidate for your Stage 2 engine because it’s a non-A/C car and because it’s a Flame Orange ‘72. Doesn’t get much better than that, right? I look forward to seeing updates as your project moves forward. So this car originally had a white top? That will look unusual with the black interior. Was it a painted roof (code 11) or a white vinyl top (code A)?
I like the black top on a '72 w/all the black accents that year but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Congrats on finding a very suitable candidate!
It’s a 65 A code so vinyl roof. I’m gonna assess it more before deciding what to do, it does seem strange for it to have been born white vinyl top with black interior. I had stumbled across it a week or 2 ago but the guy wouldn’t respond so I almost gave up and went in with my search for a 70, but was even considering a 71 that’s in Iowa, but it didn’t pan out either.
If the black top is in great condition, it would be hard to justify replacing it. But if it needed replacement, I'd be tempted to put the white back on it. It would certainly trigger some questions from onlookers who wouldn't think it was originally built with a white top and black guts. I love '72s and that appears to be a neat car in great condition. I'm glad to see it fell into hands that will do something really cool with it.
It’s just a shop sticker from some radiator/ coolant specialist. Looks to have had a water pump replaced.
love it! Brent if you remember Jim Haas old 72 NHRA stock eliminator had a white top with black interior. Fernando
It looks like it was just lacquer spray paint, comes off with a rag and thinner pretty easily, and doesn’t seem to affect the vinyl texture at all.
I see they have the upside down super air cleaner lid option. LOL Nice find, congrats Will make a great stage-2 ride..
