The quadrajet # isn't right. A 1970 Buick carburetor for an automatic should be something like 7040242; not 07041242. Maybe the seller got the numbers all transposed and meant 17040242 but I think the leading 1 would mean it was built in 1980. I'm dumb
Current bid - $22,322.00 13 Apr 2024 at 6:18:00pm PDT. Wonder how high it will reach? Unless I've missed something, this looks to be a super nice Buick to own. Vet
Seller posted cowl tag data which shows car was built Cortez Gold with a black vinyl top. Trim code is correct (black buckets). Seller corrected it.
I'm thinking that the fact it's a '71 and also a repaint in a different color might keep the bidding down a bit. But, I love a GSX theme in white and so let's see what happens with this one.
Might keep the bidding down, but not the reserve. To me, the car would be worth more (& the seller would've had less $ into it) if it were the orig. color/top & w/o the stripes & holes in the trunk & hood (assuming it's not a factoy hood tach car which is very unlikely). At least this one is a factory avail. '71 color combo.
My guess is it won't meet the reserve, which I suspect is north of $80k but tbh I suck @ all this, so....
It does look pretty well done. Only I don't get why they'd go thru all of that expense and time creating a GSX "tribute" and decide to leave the fender and decklid emblems in place. If it were my car, I'd have removed those. Though, if it were truly my car, I'd probably have left it Cortez gold in the first place, so what do I know...
My guess too, north of 80k. I have noticed that recently, very well done restorations on Buicks are bring a lot more money. I realize this is a tribute, but very well done for what I can see. Also, seems the seller wants to get this car sold, so maybe, someone will get it for a lower price. My best guess. I'am a little optimistic because GSX Buicks are my favorite and the white and yellow ones are my favorites. We'll have to wait & see. Vet
Good point, to bad this Buick wasn't white color to start with! Cortez paint color is also outstanding. In fact, buick had some of the best exterior colors in the muscle car industry. In my opinion. Vet
IIRC, the White 1970 GS Stage1 4-spd that sold over 200k was a Thornton. This is one of the auctions. https://www.mecum.com/lots/383584/1970-buick-gs-stage-1/?aa_id=249678-0 IMO, not Kleiner, but still a great restoration shop. Troy
Yep, the 4 speed car Troy referenced was done at Thorntons. They do good work but they're far better known for restoring and reproducing parts for Olds.
