Skyman I just read the whole thread and you have done yourself proud all the mods are just incredible, definitely out of the box and tastefully done. I commend you on your choice of color (maybe I'm bias). The shade or indoors will not do it justice, bright sun shiney days will make it pop. Hopefully your trip to the sand box will short and safe. Good luck and God Bless thanks Rick
Hello from Sunny Baghdad Hey all, sorry it has been so long since I posted. Not to much time for tinkering on the old Buick here. The bullets and Bombs kind of keep you preoccupied. Hope to be back by Halloween. Get the GS on the road soon after. Happy Buick....ing All. Chris
Chris, So how is it over there now? I was there in 03-04, and it wasn't as bad as the media was saying, so I'm curious what your take on it is. Hope you're staying safe (as well as could be expected anyway!)
Ditto to all that Chris hope to hear from you soon and see the Shylock on the road keep your head down Bud Ed
Wouldn't ya know they extended us..... Be back in Jan now. Plan to full court press the Slylark apon return. I WANT TO DRIVE THIS THING BY SPRING!!! Thanks again for all the support everyone.
Rick Do you know the exact colour code?. I know the Caddy Black Cherry but it would be easyer to find with the exact code. I'm thinking of spraying my '41 Sedanette with this colour, it would look awesome :bglasses: // Jan
Romy, Don't know how it was in 03-04, but we get blown up damn near every day. Can't say that I enjoy it, or that I will miss it when I leave. We hope to finish the job so that we don't need to come back here again.

We hope to finish the job so that we don't need to come back here again. But, don't think that I have been utterly stalled out on the SLYLARK.... I have been ordering parts!!! So far, I have ordered the complete harness (EZ Wiring's mini fuse 21 circuit trunk mount kit), a Tilton Super Starter, and a RAPTOR 200-R4 trans that is supposed to be able to handle 700 HP!'' On the list of stuff to still order before re-deployment is TA Performance SP1 Intake, TA Shorty headers, Demon 800 carb, valve covers, etc. Take care all, and thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
Chris, My Girlfriend brought home a halloween pumpkin for the kids, and for some reason I thought about you. I hope all is well and you guys are safe. It's my understanding that American cars were popular in the middle east up untill the late 70's.... Have you run across anything interesting? Or have they all baan scraped out by now?
I have seen a couple 65/66 Chevy belairs and a 56 Chevy truck. Thats really all. Most of the stuff I see is 80's and 90's foreign crap.
I AM HOME!!!! :TU: and happy to report forward progress on Project "SLYLARK". Unfortunately I also picked up another project on the way home. (71 IH Scout), which has been devouring my time and money too. I am waiting on a couple key parts from boardmembers to get this thing fired up... My order from TA came in the other day, B4B intake, shorty headers (Jet Hot coated), and cast valve covers. Now all I am waiting on is the Alternator (100 amp 1 wire from Jegs) an alt bracket, and a distributor to come in. It should be set to go. I have a ton of pics, but will start with this one. (These headers are a work of ART)
I also got the Tilton Super Starter and Aluminum Radiator installed. I am in the middle of wiring. The EZ harness is well constructed, and includes a comprehensive booklet on how to wire, but it still is not EASY!!! Oh, and I am working on putting together all the little stuff (hoses, plugs, etc.) the last pic is my new MSD 8.8mm wires. I hope to get the engine spun over through the column today. That at least will be progress I guess.
Here is some pics of "in-progress wiring". It is amazing how a little time (like 2 and a half years) makes you forget things. I think I spend more time looking for parts I have already bought than I do actually working on the car!!! I have moved twice since I last seriously worked on this car, nothing is where I remember putting it!!!
Here is pics of the new junk on the engine. I went with an Edelbrock 750 just to get the motor running. Eventually as you all know I want to run fuel injection.
Thanks TXGS, I do remember... I have more progress pics today. I am still waiting on the distributor and alternator bracket, but I was able to spin the oil pump and see that it has oil pressure. I also finally got it wired enough to spin it over. (that is the closest to running that this car has been since I have owned it!!!). Put the shorty headers in today, man are those things a tight fit. I wound up removing the engine mount bolts and jacking the motor up, then pulling the nose off the Tilton and playing solenoid location to get them in. I wound up rotating the starter 180, so the soleniod is below the body, that was the only way to clear the headers (it should also help keep it from getting to hot and not starting in the summer). Also finished hoses, and most of the small stuff too. I have pretty much been in the local Checker parts store about 5 to 6 times a day for the last 4 days or so. I cant wait to hear this thing on open headers!!! Should be SWEET sounding!!! Here are some pics
Oh, here is the sweet steering wheel I found on ebay while I was deployed... It is a Grant Signature series Mahogany wheel, but it was mistakenly stained black instead of wood... one of 200 in the run that got screwed up. I think it looks SWEET, and being that it is uniqe like my car, I had to have it. :Brow: Pics below
