I would like to have my buick rallye wheels rechromed instead of buying new ones. Does anyone have a shop they would recommend? Thanks, Allen
i was going to do that with my rallys but my friend informed me that it would actually be less expensive to just buy new ones from wheel vintiques. Rechroming is too expensive in my opinion. U can get a brand new set for about $650 and that includes shipping! something to consider bro.
Thanks for the input. I've had lots of bumpers and other stuff chromed, but never tried wheels. Oh well, it's only money:laugh: Allen
Something else to consider is if your wheels are 14 inch and you decide to go with disc brakes (if you don't have them already)you will need the 15 inch rally wheels.
All of the repro rally wheels are made of pure Chineseum....:spank: Do your homework, as there are numerous issues with roundness and soft metal around the lug holes. I know some folks who bought repro wheels, and had to go thru 3 sets to get 4 wheels that were acceptable.
i believe that the rallyes that wheel vintiques & specialty wheels sell use the original hub(centre) from old wheels and weld them to the new rim piece. my 15" rallyes came from wheel vintiques. they are good wheels.
I personally sent back my wheels 3 times, I gave up because of the quality it was a nightmare and 4 months wasted time!!! shipped the last crappy looking ones back yesterday.
Just a little FYI about chroming steel wheels. It is VERY expensive and alot of shops will not re-chrome them because you have to take them apart at the hub. Taking apart meaning unwelding them at the hub. It's a procedure that alot of shops would rather not do, but in order to have a wheel chromed correctly, has to be done. I do know of a shop in L.A. but I think they want your first born to do it.
