Bucket List.....seat swap ideas...

The Street Sleeper has my old '69 black cover front bench in it, and retains the factory original blue back seat back rest and bench. The vinyl on the rear back rest is wasted from sun exposure, but the cover on the rear bench is still decent. Patina.

Part of the 'Street Sleeper' guise is the bench and the Vertigate stick....but, I have an itch that needs a scratchin'.

I have been kicking around idea of going with a modern bucket seat set up for the front. A little resto-mod. I am also looking to find some wieght shaving loosing the bench, so buckets doesn't need to be power assisted seats, but must be able to fold forward and allow access to back seat. Donor needs to be a two door.

I don't care for most aftermarket race seats, don't fold forward to allow rear seat access, and I want comfort as it is a BUICK, but still open to it.

I have seen a couple successful looking swaps sourcing from moden manufactureres here, one from a donor Hyundai Sonnata if I recall, and that looked great.

My plan is to source some used low mile blue bucket seats, fab the floor mounts as needed, re-upholster seat covers (front / rear) as needed so it all mathces one way or another.

I prefer try to maintain stock rear cover style and match the fronts if perhaps donor is leather...

Please share here with pictures and information pertinent to my quest of ideas....

    Cheers!

Take a look at TMI. I should have my set around Christmas. I picked the Pro-Series Universal SPORT-VXR Low Back Seats With Headrests and matching rear upholstery. Go to the "Design Your Seat" section at the bottom of the page to pick your style, material and colors.

Seats are in, rears to be covered in a couple of weeks, and having headrest cut down in height. So far I like!

    What's your opinion of these?

I went with a set or Corbeau seats in the front of mine and added a shorty console. I love the change...very supportive seats and still have easy access to the rear seat.

Good eye. Yup they are the GTS II and in micro suede. Really good bolster support and they are very comfortable. I got the dual latching universal mount from Corbeau (the one you referenced is the single latch variant, but they are the same size). I had to some minor build for two of the four holes for each seat IIRC since the mounting points for the stock bench seat that I replaced it with. The shorty console is a nice addition if you can find one.

I have been looking at those hard for a while.

I would like to dye seats blue to match the interior or get it close.

Grey cloth, least cost, would likely be the easiest to match and last the longest color wise, but covers wear out faster.

I like leather, don't like the price but with the right treatment would dye well and last.

I realy like the microsuede and the price, and have to think it would dye well and durability of leather.

That A22002F adapter is the only one I see on Summit. What is the difference between single and dual latching? If you can find part number of the ones you used post it please.

Getting the color right could be a challenge...my interior was black so it wasn't a concern for me. It would be worth contacting Corbeau and see what they might recommend or say regarding dying. As far as the bracket the dual latch mount latches both rails instead of one and has a bar across to adjust the slider vs a handle. On Corbeau's site you can see a dual latch vs single latch if you mouse over seat bracket menu. http://corbeau.com/master-seat-brackets You would want the dual latch you can give them a call and they can do it for an extra $20 at time of ordering or $59 as an add-on separately.

Thanks, I noticed that when looking at all the options. Definately be calling them; did you order direct from them? I am curious what the cost difference is as through Summit Pro shop it would be $790 to my shop for the pair of microsuede and brackets.

Back in 09 I bought them from TRE Performance and didn't go direct through Corbeau. At the time the part number for the dual latch brackets were D504T, D505T ($238 total). They are probably the same but I would double check.

This guy used some 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT seats and recovered them. I thought they looked pretty good. Don't know how they compare weight wise.

Yes, they would be heavy! I don't want anything heavier than the bench I have. If I recover, staying with my bench seat which is still a strong option at this point.

Peter, recall approximate weight of the Corbeau seats?

The weight is 27lbs per seat (not that I remember I had to click on the dimensions picture to figure that out...http://corbeau.com/gts-ii.html). I would say that they are slightly lighter than a typical stock seat.

Interesting side note I see that you can get it with a seat heater installed now...pretty sure that's not a consideration for most of our Buicks though! :)

That seems like a good deal. I got mine seats for $740 and the sliders for $238 back in 2009. I found a picture from when I did the install. It's after the sounds deadening went in but you can see the mounting point studs I welded in...retained one of the original bolt in holes.

PUI, (parts unlimited, inc.) in LaGrange, KY did the seats I purchased thru Ausley's Chevelle. They are year appropriate and have the low rise head rest. Back of the seats lay down nearly flat for entry to the back seat. Problem: the cost for the ready to bolt in seat which included the sliders, done in black and the Buick Stitching was nearly 23oo dollars. Was drop shipped from PUI in about 2 weeks. Regular Chevelle seats not done in Buick Stitching are kept it stock, ready for immediate delivery. Don't yet know how to post pics on here but if I can get it done I'll post a pic of my interior with the PUI seats.

Any plug and play swaps for our bucket seats ? Always wanted to try something with more comfort and support. Do any of the Buick Century seats match up with the 70 to 72 GS bolt pattern ?
