What kind of power are the factory mounting points on the block good for. Do I need to tie the left side down. 650/700 HP.
I would , pulling on the side of the block alone with high HP causes problems, I actually would do ears off each head , but a tie down will work fine.
The setup I made still allows the engine to be dampened by the OEM mounts. Never had an issue running just the left side, ...... but since the motor mounts no longer absorbed a lot of the initial torque I did notice the car launched more violent than with the OEM rubber mounts alone. Larry
I've made my own. As far as I know, Steve Reynolds (SRE) has made them for other people. He can also do the necessary modification to a stock front cover
I'll be in touch when I get closer. I know I can't exactly do the same thing for Buick, but this is the one I had made for my Olds. I replaces the timing cover completely.
This was my first version with a stock block. Pretty involved but it worked great and was one of a kind.
Motor plate is $175 and modifications to the timing cover are another $175. I have pics of the motor plate, but they're on a different PC that I can't access at the moment. If you want pics let me know and I'll post them tomorrow. I also make 1/8" steel plated mid plates and those are $145. Thanks, Steve
I know i am having issues with the engine pulling up on the drivers side. I have a chain between the frame and the one head but its stretching the chain out badly. I need to do a mid plate and at least a plate and mounting point off the head. I dont have room for a full front plate or i would do that. There is so much torque it distorts the block at the number 3 bore at the engine and it blows the head gasket.
Would the plates have to replace or even require cover mods. Couldn't they just holt off the heads 1 for each side?
