I can figure this out. Do the grills come off first? I can seem to find any details from my 3 manuals. ?.. Any tips would be great. Mike

on a non air car pop the grills out and remove the screws. then pull them towards the center of the car. unhook the cable to the dash vent. on the drivers side you need to pull the emergency brake pedal assembly.

Thanks you. No screws holding the grills....I'd rather not break anything.;)

Once you remove the grilles and screws you may have to give them a bit of a tug or two as to release the factory caulking. You may also have to lift up as you fiddle while removing them because of a lip at the bottom/inside of the back vent opening.

Thought about removing those panels back in 2003 but realizing that the emergency unit had to be removed, I decided no!

How can I clamp my brake cable and remove the parking brake assembly to facilitate re-installation? Thanks in advance for any help. I've never done this one before either.

once you unbolt it from the firewall there will be plenty of slack to unhook the cable. don't worry about clamping it.

i just did this job replacing the carpet in my father's olds

You can back off the adjustment under the car at the intermediate cable as well as unhooking the cable tension/routing clips. There's a spring clip that can also be removed from the front cable to relieve tension. That will give you plenty of slack.
