Well today I was offered a free engine and I went to go pick it up. It appears to be a Buick V6, I see some red paint on it and it's distributers up front. The guy who sold it to me told me it was in a Cutlass from 88, that he took out because the engine was making a ticking sound. The man also said that the owner of this motor before him had just rebuilt it.
Looking at the engine, inside the valve cover 20171117_141438.jpg the damages on The Rocker shaft. It's cracked right in half, when I asked him about this he said that maybe the timing was off or something it. Anyways I got it for free what do you guys think cause the rocker shaft to break.

Fatigue and a stress riser. If you look and the broken end do you see two different type surfaces? PS, You should have bought my block.;)

Lol.You're right I should have bought your block. Soon after I bought a Cadillac 472 for 350 bucks that ended up being a boat anchor. I did end up getting in the 430 for a hundred bucks. I'm away from the engine right now but I'll check to see if there are two different surfaces on the break. Thanks man

My first GN had about 3 cracked valve retainers so I replaced them all with Crane hardened. I had no idea why on a very low mileage engine.

Maybe just fatigue and burnouts for this engine? Extra strength rocker shafts are available so maybe this is a weak point.

if a valve seized up really suddleny its possible, I would think the rocker would have the push rod punch through. what did the push rods look like.?
