I'm rejuvenating the engine bay in my 76 Riv and seem to have a small valve cover leak. My blue valve covers are very rusty, so I plan to replace them with some nice (stock-looking) chrome ones, along with a replacement chrome air cleaner lid and a few other things. All new aluminum AC components are coming too.

What's the best valve cover gaskets? Cork or rubber? Who sells the best ones?

I guess its just a matter of opinion or preference. I prefer cork myself with a skim coat of Permatex Ultra black on both sides.

Cork. And maybe rough up the chrome mating surface of the valve cover.

TA has cork in different thicknesses the 1/4in works well for sealing issues and uses a more dense material , iirc the stock bolts still work fine

Thanks. I'll go with the T/A gaskets-- 1/4".

try Ede rubber with gaska cinch. leave v cover set up then stick together . never had problem---use v cover over without a new gasket. only drawback $18.00 per set.kenny462.

I don't use gaskets anymore. I use "the right stuff". It's never leaked on me. Do a pro0er degrees on all parts.

Fel-pro Black VC gaskets have worked very well for me on many different cars over the years. I have even re-used them on occasion.

Felpro cork is what I used. I’m a novice and they don’t leak.
