hi all from across the ocean) thanks for the add just got a 72 skylark custom. its still in LA, will be sipping shortly p.s. got a lot to tell and ask but later)
Yeah there are very few old school cars here and no skylark for sure. there's one 71 Riviera though but i guess he's is not on this forum Happy to be expending the club's geography!!!
Nothing special, lot of the folks here have gs455s and gsxs but those were way off my budget. But its practically a one owner car, the guy i got it from bought it in april 2017 and barely drove it. assembled and been all its life in cali, no rust, all papers and docs are with it and under 100k original miles. Came with lots of spare parts and the interior is in very good shape. I'm planning to paint it here in georgia it's way cheeper and get wider wheels in LA and I'll be needing your help in that. P.s. i want to know your opinion on what would've been a good price for this car. Thanks in advance
We added a member from Hungary in the recent past. At one time, we had a member from Russia. Be careful with wheel size, especially on the front. Back spacing is critical. Bigger stock size wheels with stock back spacing often will not work. Regarding the price, my opinion is $4000.00 to $10,000.00 dollars U.S. In my opinion the cost for paint in the USA could be as much as the value of the entire car.
Russia is huge i wouldn't be surprised if you had more than one member. Price range is wide and right) yes painting is really expensive in US. Here in georgia i can get it painted for 1000-1500 usd equivalent and it will be show quality. But wheels it totally different story there are almost no muscle car wheels and no size and bs/offset choice at all here. And to ship and custum clear them is expensive. So i read about wheel and tire sizing a couple of topics in this forum and i know it's a complex thing. besides i have only one try to get and fit them in LA so the car is shipped with new shoes this way i won't have to pay custom fees separately for wheels and I'll sell the stock ones in LA. What sucks here is import taxes and custom fees: the older the car and the bigger the engine the more you pay so I'll have to pay same amount in taxes and fees as did for the car itself ( P.s. so where should i post regarding the wheels? Here or in the wheel section?
If it has 15 X 7 inch rims, the biggest factory tire in the 70 model year was a G60 x 15 Goodyear Polyglass. The closet modern tire would be 245 60R x 15 radial. You can run as big as a 255 60R X 15 on the front, but some report they rub under some conditions. The biggest 15 inch tire that I have ever run on the back are 275s. When you get into bigger rims you get into bigger dollars. Many of these guys have run a lot of combinations and they can chime in with their own experiences. If you want it to handle the best, I would use 245 60R x 15s. You are not going to overpower the tires too much with a stock 72 350 cid engine.
Thanks for sharing your experience. All the tire sizes you mentioned were for 15x7 rims right? The result I want to achive is a wide stance, so the wheels are not outside the fenders but on the edge(or as close as possible) both front and rear. From what I read and saw from wheel threads here I was thinking about 15x9 or 15x10 (275-295 tires) rear and 7 or 8 (245 tires) front and maybe spacers if needed. But without any modifications to wheel wells or trimming the chrome trim cause I'm not there myself. Any suggestions or member references on that topic?
Try this thread: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?th...can-put-on-my-72-skylark.270559/#post-2307153 Be careful because some of these guys going big on tires have been forced to trim or roll their fender or quarter panel lips.
