Traded my truck in for a Chevy Bolt a while back because I never really did use the truck for truck things...

Figured I have two utility trailers, a 4'x4' and a 5'x'8', and two cars with trailer hitches if I ever needed to haul bulky things around, otherwise I can rent a truck for $20/day at U-haul or Home Depot if I have something heavier. That being said yesterday was the first day I "needed to haul something" since I traded in the truck, and the Skylark was easily up to the task! Sure got a few funny looks at Home Depot, lol.

No real Skylark news other than still driving it semi-regularly since I put the rear axle back in it a month or so ago. I had put the 9" in my Firebird for Drag Week last September.

Been a few years, but the car is still doing it's thing. Drove it for a week straight earlier this month. Had to pickup a pallet of car parts for another project. Kids keep me busy as life does. Picked up some parts to start down the path of refreshing the engine. The roller lifters and valve springs have over ten years on them and possibly upwards 100,000 miles so I figure it would be a good time to swap them out. Going to put some nice cast aluminum valve covers on it when I do as well since my welded on tin ones are a constant source of oil leaks. Haven't decided if I'm going to dingle ball and re-ring the engine or maybe spring for a tri-shield stroker kit. Contemplating getting a bigger roller cam, but it really drives nice with the current cam and roller core's seem to be in short supply.

After 5 years at the new place I finally got some concrete in the backyard so I can start doing big car project stuff. No more plywood on coarse gravel. Sad to report though, when I started up the Centurion a couple months ago it appears to have spun the front cam bearing as no oil was getting to the passenger side rockers. So it's engine is another eventual project to do.

You mean driver's side rockers, correct?

My annual'ish update, lol. Still driving around. The paint in the last year has started deteriorating rapidly, so will likely look at doing some minor body work this winter and put a fresh coat of silver on it.

Was looking over a few things and noticed some teeth missing off the alternator belt! If I remember right, I put the belts on in 2013, so I guess they were due! I changed out both belts. I'm thinking of pulling the engine this winter for a light refresh and will change the hoses out then.

Nevada passed a new classic car registration law requiring classic car insurance, or get the car smogged if its newer than 1968! So I opted to smog the car rather than deal with changing insurance with other stipulations. They don't give me the numbers but it passed. I had to Smog it a few years ago when I fixed the speedo cable and the DMV grumbled about he odometer being off and possibly driving more than 5,000 miles in a year. So despite having double the OE engine size, no smog pump, or EGR or cats, it passed.

Awesome to see you are using the car, and your kids have grown up with it. My kids have only had a couple of drives in the Buicks (mom is scared mostly). They both remember the rides fondly.

Mostly I drive like a grandma when my kids are in the car, although occasionally when we are out of sight line of mom, they get a taste.

I mentioned having to get the car smoged due to Nevada classic car laws changing, it also required me to get a new license plate when I went to register the car. And what did I get? A lucky draw! 455!

    Now I have 455 eXperiment 39! :D

My daily driver Kia spent nearly a month at the dealership to replace the 12v battery, but I spent that month driving the Skylark to work daily. Have to get used to not rowing gears, haha.

Just in time too, as this morning the clutch pedal neutral safety switch decided to be finicky and not let the car start for a bit so I thought I'd give a clutch start a test since I hadn't tried it in several years. Got to a 3 mph roll and tapped 1st gear and it fired right up :D

Looking at making some changes to the Skylark. It needs tires, paint and an engine refresh.

Starting with the tires, I picked up a set of rims today. These have the standard 5x4.75" bolt pattern, so need to swap out the brake rotors on the car from the 5x5" bolt pattern currently on the car. I already have the front rotors on the shelf. The rear axles are drilled for both patterns so just have to move the studs and change the rotors there too.

For the engine, looking at getting a Trishield 482 stroker short block and potentially a fair bit more cam. Re-wire the EFI and do a general cleanup under the hood, still retain the A/C.

I'm re-wiring the Firebird right now, and bought this cheap $40 chinese oscilloscope to add to my inventory of testing equipment. A friend of mine thought one of the injector drivers on his EFI computer was going out, so took this opportunity to try it out on my Megasquirt before testing his.

(His tested find, so either wiring or other electrical noise forcing an issue on his car)
