I think it's the real deal and the guy is confused. Just because that particular one didn't go down the track at Indy, I think he refers to it as a replica. My best guess as the roof looks correct and would be hard to duplicate.
Must be. However a pace car edition does not need to actually go down the track to be a real deal car.I always liked those cars and would have one if the right deal came along.
It does look like a replica, the red interior kinda different, but was correct, most were black deluxe with cloth inserts. I just got mine out of storage and will take some pictures and post. Mine is missing most of the decals, and needs the body done, but a nice driver, that I have owned sense 1982,

Sure be interesting to document the one with the white & blue interior. If it is indeed original it has to be the only or one of a few built that color combo. I have never even seen another with the white seats, only black & the dark burg
I have seen a number of 75 pace care replicas with the white and blue interior, never seen a 76 in white and blue. If the nice one did not have to much rust before repaint, then it appears to be a fair price for the car.
I thought for a split second that maybe parts of a 75 had been moved over to the 76, but that isn't the case
The Pace car in the original ad has a Red 350 4brl. And the Silver one (in one piece) has a Blue 350 2brl. Are both correct for 76 or does it depend where it was built? With only 1190 built, I would have assumed they would all be built at one plant. Strange fact, the next year (1977) the pace car was a Oldsmobile 88 full size 2 dr bench seat column shift. G.M made only 2,404 of them (most without the graphics) and couldn't give them away. Many were repainted either Silver or Black and sold to the unknowing public. I know I know... whichever of the big three (usually G.M.) that cracks their wallet open the most gets to have a pace car, but painting a full size family car Silver and Black and calling it a Pace Car? I would be more attracted to Pace cars if they had some go fast goodies to go with the graphics
Well, actually there is a specific type of Official Pace Car Replica which is in between the actual Pace Car used at the track (and its back up) on one side and the larger number of replicas produced and sold after the race. There's a category of "Festival cars" which the Pace Car manufacturer provides to the Indy 500 event for use (sometimes 30+ or 50+ cars) with the various parades and other activities in the week prior to the race and including various opening festivities at the track prior to the race (yes, including often driving [not racing] around the track with VIPs, etc.). These "Festival cars" usually have some level of authentication of their involvement in the race festivities and at the track and often adds value to the car. I had a '74 Hurst/Olds W-30 which was such a car and wore the round extra "Festival 500" decal and had paperwork showing it was used as such before being sold to the public.
1967 through 1974 is Buick red. 1975 the correct engine color is a metallic blue much like AMC blue. 1976 and up is GM corporate blue, a light blue color.
