Im going to ASSUME the Buick has a 455 or bigger Buick engine, just the way it jumps on the 'Vette, LOW END TORQUE! Even if the Buick had a 454 Chevy, it just goes to show the design intentions of V8's from different eras. Late 60's early 70's, big block V8's were about low end torque. Todays V8's are more about mid and upper rpm torque. I feel it every time I drive my wifes 5.3 Tahoe, great vehicle/engine, but not a lot of low end umph, shes gotta get wound up a bit
I was just about to share this. Grand Sport vs “Grand” Sport. It doesn’t look like the Vette driver was using launch control. I’d think it could do better.
You guys all sound like Vette owners making excuses!! "I had my ac on..the sun was in my eyes... I sneezed... " What I saw was a Buick beat a high end modern Corvette. Would it happen everytime? Maybe, maybe (probably) not. But it happened THAT time! That's why I don't post kill stories anymore here. Everytime it's like 60% of the response are making excuses for the other guy. I don't get it. Can't we be proud an old buick performed well? Last two I put up, over half the responses were "well my friends sisters boyfriend's neighbors plumbers doctor has one you wouldn't beat!". Cool story bro, I beat the one that tried. My acquaintance Rod Hendrickson has a Buick your awesome dudes ride wouldn't beat I bet, if we wanna play that game. "But the Vette is street-able!" Nice, but this wasn't a "street-able competition", was it? It was a RACE on a RACE TRACK and it LOST. We seriously need to stop flinching like an abused puppy and maybe be proud a trishield wins one every now and again. Sheesh.... Sorry, rant over....
If 12:2s and 12.3s is the best that Vet can run, I would bring it back or get a better driver to drive. My Corvette will run 11:2s @ 127mph right out of the showroom. Not jumping on the Corvette band wagon but that back half GSX racecar was an embarrassment at 11:13 @ 117mph. One of these days I'll get this Bad Boy down the track and we'll see what it can do.......
I liked that video Mark. I had to share it to my father in law ,he's aways talking about modern HP ,and he's aways wanted A new vette. I have nothing against them but I like my old stuff .
If that GSX is a race car let me see him take this Corvette to the cleaners. OK, I know there is always someone faster, but that GSX was saying nothing....
Ok, let's see that Vette beat this Camaro.... Do you see my point? The Buick in that video beat the Corvette in that video in that race. The one upsmanship theorizing is BS. No wonder more people are starting to put LS's on their brand X cars, even guys that like the brand have no pride in them anymore....
I am still a Buick guy, struggling with a Buick engine. Even though I am totally blown away with the LS motors, I never for one minute thought about putting one in GrandNasty. I expected the GSX to spank the Corvette but a hell of a lot more than it did. I was surprised that the Viper killed that Vet. The 2018 Corvette Grand Sport Carbon 65 is rated at 460hp and 465ftlbs of torque. The Viper if it's stock is 450hp and 490ftlbs of torque. I'd call this horsepower pretty even which leads me to believe this was a drivers race in which case the Corvette driver sucked. My son has a 2001 Hennessey Viper GTS-ACR 750. This thing has 750hp and mega torque. Trust me, I've driven it and it's wicked fast. Even though my Vett has 100hp less, it weighs 600lbs less than the Viper and has way more computer controlled functions that help my Vett kick his ass. That Vett driver has a lot to learn.
That viper is 645hp,.it looks to be a 2015 to me ,..vette never had a chance but did pretty well considering the HP gap.but I agree the Buford is making alot of noise for low 11's but maybe it's a work in progress
If your car hasn't actually been down a dragstrip, you never know what it'll actually run, no matter what a magazine and the internet says. I've seen 4 Nissan GTRs that "run 11s" in the magazines run at sea level in real life, and have never seen one faster than 12.8. One guy just up and left after his test run when he turned his second consecutive low 14. I went to Viper fest in Denver a number of years ago (like 5000 ft elevation), and saw 1 car get down in the low 12s, 2 in the high 12s, the rest were mid 13s. I've beat plenty of "10 second cars" with my actual 12 second car, and a lot of 12 second rides with my 14 second truck. If YOUR car with YOU or someone you know driving it hasn't been down the 1/8 or 1/4, take what you think it will run, and add 2 seconds to it. That'll get you ballpark. Until then, you're just speculating and benching.......
My car will do 9.06 in the standing 1/4 mile. But I'll need a little help getting it on top of 432 Park Avenue...
Well, since I was beating 10 second cars back when my Mach 1 used to have the little engine in it, I must've been running 9's then, too! And now that it's about 2 seconds quicker than that, I'm in the 7's! Get me on Street Outlaws!
