My Dad had a 70 Mark III back in 1976 that came with an AM / 8 track player. We, my brother, his buddy, my sister, and I were all going to Baltimore to visit relatives. We brought Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon hoping he'd run out of radio stations in the middle of the night. Sure enough, somewhere in the middle of South Carolina we heard him grumbling about no radio stations. We whipped out our 8 track and he loved it!!! His favorite song was Money. Dad would tell us, "Put that money song on again." I think we wore that tape out on that trip! Miss you Dad!!!!!
Bought a "YORX" combination AM/FM/cassette/8 track boom box in 1980. A whopping 150 bucks back then. Ames Department Store. A lot of money for a dorky kid.
This is a great read so I have to chime in, I have two brand new, never opened 'Elvis Presley' 8-tracks from the late 70's in their original plastic wraps. I bought them when I signed up for an offer from RCA, or Columbia House, remember those silly deals where you got your first 10 or 12 tapes for like a $1.00 and then they shipped you a new tape of the month for full price for the next 12 months! Boy, my parents where pissed at me when they found out about that one! Larry
Friends of ours just bought a ranch style house on a prime river-side lot. Should say they stole it ! Permit still there & the house hasn't been touched since built in '74. Kitchen still has a working 8-track player built-into the wall. Fold it open, insert tape & fold it back up. Pretty high-end stuff for 1974.
