Hello everyone. I recently purchased a very nice 1971 Skylark . 350/2---power drum brakes. All original with 122,000 and it runs great. After owning 2 '72 GSs and another '72 Sun Coupe when I was much younger, I want to fix this one up a bit and just keep all the OEM parts in case I sell or upgrade. I would love to hear your opinion on what products and/or companies are good to work with. This will be my first actual classic build and I just want to be able to drive and enjoy my car. In other words, my street racing days are over. My list-- Convert to front disc brakes Upgrade the radio (have the factory AM) Convert to 4 barrel with a performance intake Possibly headers, but it is tight under that hood. Please let me know your thoughts.
I own a 71 with the first three options on your action list; they are worth while and make a difference. I would personally skip the headers and think more about rear end gear ratio and or stall converter in transmission to round out your upgrades. First I would verify that your timing chain and gears have been replaced as it is a common fail point in the early Buicks before you add performance mods. If you have any questions along the way; there is plenty of experience here on the site to assist. Good luck!
If I can figure out how to load them---- 15582006168271sw by Jimmy C posted May 18, 2019 at 1:56 PM 71 Tr by Jimmy C posted May 18, 2019 at 1:56 PM 71side by Jimmy C posted May 18, 2019 at 1:56 PM 71eng by Jimmy C posted May 18, 2019 at 1:56 PM 71 Skylark by Jimmy C posted May 18, 2019 at 1:56 PM
I remember Pontiac using those. I helped change one out on a Firebird and wound up pulling the pan to make sure all the pieces were out.
