I am assembling a 425 from parts from several engines of different years. My goal is to run it on the engine stand before putting it into the car. I am using 1966 because my block and intake manifold are 1966. I am assembling with a PVC valve. My push rod cover (under carburetor) is from a '59 401 engine. It has a 1 1/4 inch diameter 1" tall pipe protruding out of it next to the distributor. Was that for use as a road draft tube? My straight eight that I am replacing had one of those. I believe I could just plug that pipe at the the top of the push rod cover. Am I thinking right?

Yes, if you use a functioning pcv system, you don't have to use the valley cover vent. The pcv setup is one of the first pollution control systems.... wasn't used on the early cars.

BUT, you need at least one valve cover vent to let in fresh filtered air.

I will have to look around for a filter that goes into the valve cover and twists to tighten.
