    Hi guys

rebuilding my 455 , the original intake was warped and decided to replace with a B4B edelbrock intake and a new edelbrock 650 4 barrel.

fired it up today after struggling to get the headers in for a week

issue is I didn’t realize that what I thought were bolt holes in the heads are actually exhaust holes right at each corner of the manifolds

the intake gasket didn’t cover them so I assumed they were just extra bolt holes
But once I fired it up it blew exhaust out each one.

the heads have a stamping of 1238148 from a 70-76 455 vin code B according to my machine shop
Any idea what they are there for and better yet how do I get around his without pulling the heads again. Any idea if I just have the wrong manifold?

what is a vin code B?

    appreciate any insite

    thanks

    frank

There are there for the exhaust crossover, if enough of the holes are showing you can put a freeze plug into plug it up, can you take a picture with your phone and post it .

Frank, why would you hamstring a Buick 455 with a 650 carburetor? :D

I was just going with a recommendation
It’s a daily driver not racing it. Just wanted modern carb and no issues

    what do you recommend?

Whose recommendation? Buick put a 750 and 800 (71 and up) Q-jet on the 455. The Edelbrock is by no means a modern carburetor, unless you think new, and electric choke means modern. It's actually an old design, the Carter AFB. The Quadrajet is superior in every way IMHO. There are several guys who could build you a Quadrajet that would outperform the Edelbrock in power and gas mileage.

The AFB predates the q-jet by nearly 10 yrs. Send that turd back and get the q-jet on there.

I have the old QJet the housing was all stripped out so it really was an option

    back to the air holes

the links In the attached threads don’t seem to work

simple fix I guess just tap the holes and plug them

    any suggestions on the plugs?
