Hello all, I have a 1971 Skylark that had a 350 in it. The car does not have original battery cables, which I do not care about. I now put a 455 in it. The positive battery cable seems a bit short and is pretty beat up, so I would like to replace it. What length battery cable should I get from the parts store? Autozone says a 2 gauge 56" long. Is that correct? I do like this one as it has a small wire terminal coming off I can use for my electric fuel pump. (installed electric fuel pump as a theft deterrent as auto thefts are crazy around here right now) https://www.autozone.com/batteries-...duralast-battery-cable-gt256b/570489_310012_0
I took my battery cable off and it is about 60” 4 gauge. This was for the 350. It was very tight. I am thinking a 72” 2 gauge for my new 455. Sound right?
65" should be fine. Also, it should be red, not black as is the one you're looking at. It also should run inside a rubber insulator block that is bolted to the engine block. Here is an exact reproduction of what you need. Not cheap but, correct for your car. https://www.lectriclimited.com/batt.../battery-cables-positive/battery-cable-123521
…have to chuckle, could be wrong but don't think OP is restoring early/late '71 GS. Just wants good cable for his 455-powered Skylark. As for pigtail, depends on how pump wired...
If you're interested in a high quality reproduction that will fit and perform at least as well as OE: https://www.stage1restoration.com/product/battery-cable-positive-1969-1970-1971/ https://www.stage1restoration.com/product/battery-cable-negative-1970-1971/
