AMD quarter came today. I started to cut. I haven't decided 100% where I want to stop, so I just cut where I know it's going to be replaced for sure...then I'll trim as I need to. I'll probably end up going up to the top line, and then coming down about 6" from the lead joint at the C pillar. Leaving the factory door jamb and window reveal as well. I'm not really a fan of the aftermarket door jamb reveal. It's not as crisp as the factory, and leaves a little to be desired for the gap shape.
Can’t even tell! Did you end up keeping the factory jamb? quick question- tips for stripping a trunk floor? My guess is bourbon and a wire wheel..
No I ripped the whole thing off. Saved some time metal working. Yeah, DA, wire wheel, etc for the trunk floor.
Not much progress at all here lately. Lots of wrapping stuff up at work for the season before the weather takes a dump. I did manage to get the first coat of polyester primer on the body shell and hood today. I love the crispness of the body line on these AMD quarters...
Let the dust bowl begin. Since I upgraded my iPhone software to 14.xxx, I cannot send photos as attachments to my home email anymore. What a pain in the ass to save them on my computer now.
(Hopefully) the last coat of high build primer on doors and hood. Body shell and trunk lid are ready for 2K. I should have 2K applied early next week. and it's snowing in the garage.
Your labor rate should be doubled during block sanding to account for the clean up time. Looks great!
LOL I wish! I do have to pretty much strip the garage and do a deep clean before I do any painting. Kind of a PITA but I don't have a choice.
Yup, it’s tough. Paint booth guys have it made lol. My dad will dump a few gallons of water on his shop floor before spraying to keep the dust down. I think we will be using a buddy’s spray booth when the time comes to paint my red car.
I would have the paint already in hand, but my supplier is out of the toners they need to mix it. I should have it by next week. They mixed me a small amount to confirm it is a match, and we're good. I matched it up with the original paint on the underside of the trunk lid. Most of the jambs on this car had original paint still showing. But the trunk lid was the only place I could get a sample.
We have paint. All of the body work is complete as of today. I have one cut to do on the surfacer, then orange goes on.
Didn’t quite make it to paint this evening. I did manage to get the hood trim, headlight bezels, mirrors, and underside of the trunk lid done, though. Everything is prepped and ready to go...tomorrow PM is go-time.
