Need to be in nice condition. Just curious what's out there. No hurry & would rather pickup at the Nationals I have a super nice set of "HF" I'll use otherwise or sell/trade.
Are they disc brake or drum brake wheels? Here are some pictures I took last spring of some 14x6 wheels that both came on a 1970. If you look at the back side, you can see that one style is clearanced for disc brakes and one will hit the caliper.
There's no distinction in the assy. manual for drum vs. disk. Just standard (HF) & heavy (LR) duty & maybe that's what you're seeing - A different configuration. What are the codes on those wheels? The "HF" (std. duty) is clearly stamped into the set I have.
There definitely a difference. Oddly, the one set that are clearanced for disc brakes, came on a drum brake car. All 5 matching the production date of the car, which was May/70. The other style that don’t clear discs also came on a drum car,but was a November/69 build. I will check the codes on the drum wheels. I sold the 5 disc wheels with a car last spring.
I'm thinking that despite the clearance that instead of disk vs. drum the difference prob. is std. vs. heavy duty.
The pair Im looking at right now are LA to the left of the stem and a large 4 to the right, along with the tiny numbers too hard to see in the paint. I have another car to check.
