The diode was necessary for my GM HEI install when I used a relay. i'd made a wood spacer for the base of my Q jet on the Riv to raise it up an inch so there would be some clearance between the GS snorkel and the dist. It looked like it would work fine on install but after the first drive it broke down both sides in the secondary area. Huge vac leak and the car was NOT happy coming home. Yesterday it got pulled and replaced with the old correct base gasket and will have to go with a spacer between the carb and air cleaner. Weather permitting Later this week will replace one of the mufflers that has a broke baffle.
How tall was the wood spacer that didn't work? Isn't there a thick aluminum spacer out there somewhere that might work? Like this: https://www.hedman.com/product-detail/2544
I ordered new axles with c-clip eliminators and 1/2" studs to replace the 20 year old units in the Skylark.
it was 1.25" and was slightly taller than I needed but worked. 100$ for the store bought one is why I made it out of wood. If I do it again I'll use couple layers of bonded strand board/ plywood.
Nothing done. But a friend of mine sent me some pics of my old GS that I forgot existed. No grill because I was waiting on a just released repro one to install. Which was perfect btw. Sure miss that car.
Finally got around to fixing my rotted core support. Welded in the kit from Mike. Cleaned the entire piece, primered, then sprayed some Eastwood 2K underhood paint. Looks so much better now than a rusty hole, lol. Order some new bushings from Todd and installed, when putting back together. Put in new battery tray and will move battery out of the trunk soon.
I always wanted to replace the rotted battery tray and core support, but the battery has not fallen out yet so thats where I'm at I guess.
I received a tracking number for the TKX 5 speed transmission I ordered from Modern Driveline. Should be here sometime next week!
Had planned to go to BMS for a private track rental for tuning with the Hawk. Got a message yesterday saying they did not have the min 10 cars needed to pay for the track @ 300 per car. Both local tracks are not running TnT this week. My tuner guys are going to NC (Galot) for a race weds through Sunday so Im stuck for yet another week waiting to get the final tuning done on the car. I had a similar issue when I replaced my electronic regulator (it went poop) with an original electro mechanical regulator (like original) Come to find out the original style electro mechanical regulator doesn’t work well with an MSD box, it doesn’t allow the ignition to cut power, the engine continued to run. Exchanged the electro mechanical regulator with another electronic one, all was good again! I never noticed this cause I had replaced the original regulator with an electronic one a long time ago (80’s) I had then since changed to an MSD distributor and box.
Well, today I'm buttoning up the installation of my 535 Tomahawk......without boost! Should be starting it soon, probably early next we. Hopefully all goes well and I'll have it in BG.
I pulled the passenger door, stripped off all the old oil and primer and dirt that was on it. Stripped the door frame too. This weekend I will epoxy prime that side and re-assemble so that it is rust prevented via epoxy primer.
Yes...... yes it is, LOL My original goal was an 8 second street car, (Buick powered) and without the ProCharger I'll need a little help getting there!!!
