I like the electroluminescent dashes in the 66 Chargers. Lots of the 50’s to early 60’s Buick, Olds, Pontiac, and Chryslers were great too.

Olds did the same thing as Buick in 1957; they took their 320 something cubic inch V8 and biggered it. Olds went from 324 (as I recall) to 371 cubic inches.

Exactly right, and raised the compression to 10:1 (gasket, I think). Funny how high compression has gone away...

    Cheers!

As far as dashes go, for me there's the 1960 Olds fullsize with the twin coves, the 1962 Olds Starfire dash and interior, and the 1959 Buick Electra/Invicta. I had a 1960 with the "Mirrormatic", and the novelty wore off pretty quickly because it would be tough to read at night, there was never enough light. Plus that hood made the whole thing look like it was in a cavern. I agree the Pagoda is one of the prettiest cars built, and for years most anything from Mercedes in that vintage was unappreciated and in some cases still is. My Finback is case in point; - I think it's beautiful, most look at it and then look at me; - "really?" However, whenever it shows up at a show it does attract a crowd; - mostly of foreigners who appreciate the car from "back home". A buddy of mine who's Dutch reminded me that those cars were the favorite ride of Turkish pimps in the Netherlands...

That said, the dash in my Mercedes is "interesting". This is a shot of it fairly recently, pardon the photo quality, and yeah, I know the seat's ripped. That even happens to MB-Tex after 60 years of stale farts. The cool thing is the ribbon style speedo; - unfortunately not visible in this shot. but where the Buick went across from left to right, this one goes up from the bottom and also changes colour. Looks pretty cool now that all the lights work.

I've since refinished the lumber, and in spring a new NOS dash cap goes in; - once it's properly dyed. So far no one has been able to tell me the correct colour for that yet.
