Is this the 4 speed trim ring used to hold the shifter boot

Going through my 4 speed parts stash making sure I have all the necessary parts for the swap on the Bittersweet 350 project. I came across this trim piece from another 4 speed car. I bought a 67 Chevelle floor hump to use and thought this was used to hold the boot in place. 20240418_200238.jpg 20240418_200317.jpg

It looks to be the lower boot ring that hold the lower boot to the floor. With a consolette there was an upper boot ring and a chrome trim to hold the rubber boot in the consolette.

I have a chrome round ring as well...I'd love to have a consolette, but have bigger fish to fry first.. This may never come to light, but I'll play around with it in case.

As Fred said that looks like the one I have for my non Consollete car screwed to the floor, and probably also holds the lower thinner boot on Consollete cars

That's the ring for a non-consolette boot (I have no idea if the same for lower consolette boot). It fits closer to the opening on the Buick hump but the Chevelle hump opening is smaller.

The earlier Buick ones (66-67 or so) had the small opening too. Later Buicks had bigger openings in the floor hump.

What boot are you going to use?
The Chevelle repo boot and ring is correct for 65-67 GS w/o console.
Fusick makes an Olds boot that looks similar, but not identical to, the later (70-ish) Buick boots.

I haven't thought that far yet. I read that the Chevelle hump needs the opening opened up a bit. This car is not going to be a concours type car, just a fun cruiser,so being original isn't the goal.I was looking at the Fusick boot.Hopefully, others will chime in and help me decide.

That ring came on both consolette and non-consolette cars and secured the lower boot to the hump.

Duane reproduced them a while back as well.

Here's my original during my carpet swap a couple years ago:

There's probably only a handful of nerds on here that would be able to spot the fusick boot from a Buick original. I have them both laying next to one another on the floor in my office. I'll post up a side by side pic after I have some coffee and cone to terms with the fact I'm back in NY :(

The Fusick Olds boots are huge compared to the non-console '66 boot. The 70-ish boots are somewhere in between. Here's a '66 boot on left, Fusick Olds boot on right:

And the '66 non-console boot on right, repo console 'lower' boot on right.

Repo lower boot pn. Retainer ring is avail too. These are correct for 66-7 GS, and will fit your floor hump. The round shifter hole will stretch to fit a rectangular handle. I'm showing these pics for reference, maybe you'd prefer the larger Fusick boot which is $55 for boot, $45 for retaining ring.. I can take some installed pics too.
    pn 3842926, $19 from Lutty's.

I am not a huge fan of the Fusick boot. I looked on Lutty's site. the boot is $19 bucks and the trim ring is $24 bucks... I believe that's what I will go with. Then perhaps sell off the Buick one I have to cover the price of the new one.. Thanks for the heads up!

Ground Up, www.ss396.com has them for 18.99 & 19.99. You'll have to check shipping prices from the different vendors. I recall seeing them for a lot more, $35+. I'd say $20 each is a good deal.
I have the Chev repo in my Special and the Fusick in a GS. I can try to post some pics soon. I'd guess you're not in a hurry.

I could really use a '68-72 non-consolette boot if either/both (have 2 non-consolette cars) of you have one you want to part with:).

I don't like the way the Olds/Fusick boot looks either Pat. Maybe b/c I've had a 4-sp. GS since I was 18 & am just used to how it looks. Year One used to make the correct Buick Boot but discontinued it. I had one I used & it seemed correct.

Fun fact: I have it on good authority that some Freemont 442s came w/the Buick Boot.

Here's an orig. '68-72 Buick Boot (borrowed from Fritz) & a pic comparing it to the Fusick (or whatever Todd sells). Maybe that big flap could be trimmed and made to look ok. Haven't tried

Also the old Year One listing & pics of how crudely the holes were cut (seemingly torched). 20220128_154002.jpg 20220128_153941.jpg 20220128_153929.jpg 20210617_151514.jpg IMG_0366.jpg IMG951636.jpg IMG958047.jpg

I am using the Fusick boot as it was all that I could find available. With all the other modifications that I have made, I don’t think anyone really notices it.
