Dickey Betts, the singer-guitarist who co-founded the Southern rock group the Allman Brothers Band and wrote several of the group’s most enduring compositions, including “Ramblin’ Man,” died April 18 at his home in Osprey, Fla. He was 80. Those two drummers were fantastic! Great music!
Iconic band with the best guitar duo with Duane Allman and Dickey in my opinion. Other Dickey written songs include such classics as Jessica, Blue Sky, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed and others as well as some excellent non Allman Bros songs with Great Southern and others. Saw the ABB a number of times, they personified the definition of a jam band with improvisation. Will be missed.
Arguably, the best live album(s) ever produced. In 8th grade, the teacher brought this album in and played it over 2 class periods. Was my introduction to the ABB and have been a huge fan ever since then.
I had ‘Filmore’ cranked up on the front porch, with a good bourbon, just a few nights ago. Time to do it again. (The ‘Second Atlanta Pop Festival’ recording is awesome, too; they played twice at the same event). RIP and God speed. Patrick
Had the pleasure of seeing him at a "Guitar Greats" concert back in the early 80's at the Capitol Theater in Passaic NJ. Along with Tony Iomi, Brian Setzer, Neal Schon, Johnny Winter, David Gilmour, Lita Ford.... - I may have missed a few. This is the very concert I was at:
He was an amazing player and he will be missed. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/18/arts/music/dickey-betts-dead.html

One of the most underrated Guitarist of all time. Combined so many styles. Back Jammin with Skydog RIP Richard Forrest Betts
I saw the Allman Bros in about 1995 at Sandstone Amphitheater in Kansas at the age of 21. An amazing road trip with friends and it was a perfect night for an outdoor show. I’ve always had a special place in my soul for this song. RIP
