Yup. Edit: Boston Clutch was the last operating business that I have seen that still had the operating overhead pulley leather-belt driven machinery. This was in the late '60s or early '70s.
Notice that the company is located in El Paso, Texas. I suspect that they are driving the parts across the border and the work is being completed in Mexico.
What company? I got a bunch of quotes last year, most were in the $1200 each range. Some were 2x that. D&R Chrome, based in Huntington Park, Ca was $750. They were at the Carlisle, Pa swap meet so that saves a bunch on shipping. I didn't see them there this year tho. Keystone/Northstar does nice work. They'll ship free from a warehouse if there's on in your area. About $1200 ea. Tri-City was $2100/pr. They kinda said the first copper plate was only used over repaired areas... so that may cost more. There are some places in Philly I want to get quotes from... Charger Metals, Frankfort Plating, and NEL Metals. They're deep in the industrial areas.
Question? What is the best way to ship a 70-72 GS bumper? UPS, FedEx or Truck Freight or some other means?
I have not used either of the following sources for bumpers, but I have used them for other large shipments. If you are shipping to an individual, two economical and reliable shipping companies are Fastenal and Greyhound. I say shipping to an individual only because both shippers require pickup of the package from the shipper's terminal instead of delivering to the customer's site.
Just shipped a 65 riv front bumper from MA to AZ by UPS through pirate ship. 74 bucks. Dropped it offnlike this at Staples ups center.
What's the cost of Paul's now? Regardless of how perfect and excellent their chrome work was/is, from what I remember, you could buy a small town for the same price as a bumper rechrome from Paul's. I'm thinking they might cater to the Barrett Jackson gin and tonic bidding crowd.
Gun-G, tell me more about that shipping. I just sent a 4lb box to North Carlina on ups and it cost me $20.00, and we ship from our office daily.
Simple www.pirateship.com They are 3rd party broker. They have contracts with UPS PO etc at wholesale rates. Basically the Walmart of shipping. Create a free account, pay by paypal. You pay, they sell you the label. Steve
