70 GS trunk stamps

    I don’t think this is a Date code because it has a stamped X, stamping is A 2X9 The stamping is in the middle of the trunk on the under side. thanks for any help in advance. IMG_3403.jpeg

    It is a date code, (week 9). You will see this same type of “deeply stamped” date code stamped into most of the sheet metal parts on your 70 car.

    For some reason all those trunk lids have an “X” stamped into them.

    It might have been some type of a location thing showing which plant made them. Or an ID so they knew which model car they were going on.

    Thanks, Duane for the reply. Really appreciate it. Seems that a lot of parts have their unique day codes, Looks like the deck lid was made a week before the car was built.

    That’s about right for a 70 car. The 69-71 cars used “week” codes for the sheetmetal, but the 72 cars used “day of the year” codes in many places.
    My book got at least half again as thick just due to adding all the changes for the 72 model year.

    Now you have more stuff to check out on your car.
